Just because this is passing from view.

43 Pictures of Post WW2... The ugly side of war.
World War II: After the War - In Focus - The Atlantic

Some perspective:
US and coalition Casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan total 8,000.

WW2 Deaths depending on source... totaled from 40 Million to 80 Million. 4% Of the World Population.

The pictures are from 1945 and 1946. During and after the war I can remember many of these kinds of pictures in newspapers and magazines like "Life". A "lest we forget".

I spent 10+yrs in the USAF & thought I was decent, though casual, student of US military history. Then visited Pearl Harbor for 1st time. Real eye-opening experience from many perspectives. The HUGE scope of WW2 (European & Pacific Theaters) literally dwarfs the mini-conflicts we have had since. Except the threat of world destruction had the Cold War turned hot. Man's inhumanity to man........
