I'm buying 100% for me if there is anything intriguing.

Right now the most intriguing item is the Nook Simple Touch Limited Edition for $79 in stores on Black Friday only.

So what I want to know is what is the difference between the Nook Simple Touch and the Nook Simple Touch Limited Edition.

Mr B and I have one more $100 cashback reward coming this month, so instead of presents, we decided to blow some of the total of $300 rewarded in 2011 on a fancy schmancy dinner here...

I bought this infrared heater from Menards today for $120. I've been out of town so when I got home, checked my mail (postal mail) and there was this ad, the same heater, $50 off on Black Friday, from 6-11 am.

Now I gotta decide, do I try to "market time" Black Friday and do a buy at discount/return original one to save $50. Or do I just forget it and not fight the crowd and stay home?

As of now, I leaning towards the latter.

I'm going to Menard's also. I hope they're having a sale on paintable caulk. But I'm not going to like the checkout lines.

How much paintable caulk do you have to buy on sale to make it worth the checkout lines?!?

I would have to buy about 100 tubes at half price in order to offset the frustration that I experienced last year. But I go to Menard's every Friday, so I'll just have to deal with it. I should be able to go through the 6 items or less line - maybe that will be less painful.

A few year back, I got up early and waited in line for about 30 minutes at Conns to buy our current big screen TV to save several hundred $s. That will be my last Black Friday event waiting in line. I don't even like shopping during the non-holiday times. Now using the internet, thats a different matter.

We try to avoid any type of store on black friday. Parking lots are dangerous and people get a bit crazy. I remember 5 or 6 years ago turbotax released it's tax package the day after thanksgiving and I went to buy it at Best Buy. A mistake for 2 reasons: the SW wasn't yet functional due to unsettled tax legislation and there was a line out the door of people waiting to pay for stuff.

The lines were shorter during food rationing in Venezuela. I can't imagine what is so compelling about buying stuff today.

Because our economy is based on mindless, debt-fueled consumption?

Why is this not surprising?

Quote:
LOS ANGELES -- A woman shot pepper spray to keep shoppers from merchandise she wanted during a Black Friday sale, and 20 people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:20 p.m. Thursday in a crowded Los Angeles-area Walmart as shoppers hungry for deals were let inside the store.
Police said the suspect shot the pepper spray when the coverings over the items she wanted were removed.

Well, I did get in, buy, and get out quickly at Menards. Of the 5 hours sale, I only stayed for about the first 30 minutes.

Did score a deal. Yet, I kept wondering who was fooling who?

The parking lot was packed by opening time (exactly what the store wanted of course). I kept thinking that the Black Friday stuff is like the casinos, they want customers to think of shooting for a jackpot deal, in the meantime the more folks come, the more the house wins.

I wonder if the place clears out as soon as the 5 hour deal is over.

I did ok. Kohl's gave me a raincheck on a doorbuster for an upright carpet steam cleaner, which they normally don't do. I scored a nice chair for my workbench at 50% off at Sears. I couldn't even get into Target, so I passed..........

All these places open on Thanksgiving, or at midnight or 4 AM or whatever today, just reminds me how much the business world is willing to crap on the American worker and prey on their desperation to work. Too bad if they don't want to work at ridiculous hours or be forced to spend time away from families when most places have traditionally closed for family time.

Well, back to Menard's. Time to return the $120 heater I bought the other day. Since I got another for $50 cheaper today.

Frasier: The other day I was asked out by this twenty-two year old girl that I met in a mall.
Niles: That is alarming.
Frasier: Well, I turned her down.
Niles: No, no, you were in a mall. Did anyone see you?

I didn't make it Menard's . DW had a coupon from ace. I went there, got 4 tubes of paintable caulk and found that the coupon was good for only sat and sun, and was for 50% off a single item up to $30. So I would have saved $2.50 if I waited until tomorrow to buy the caulk. I bought the caulk and left, but I may go back tomorrow if I can think of something I need.

I do not shop on Black Friday or any other day of the year. Since I appreciate how critical is to our national enconomy that citizens spend a lot of their money, I always encourage others to spend away.
