Cancer Study --- Link Posted!!!

Dear Moderator,

My name is Jaidev Raghunath and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Virginia. I am working with Dr. Patrick McKnight of George Mason University on a colorectal cancer survey, that analyzes the willingness to pay for various screening procedures.

We believe that this study has great implications for people over the age of 50 especially in terms of health policies and public awareness regarding colorectal cancer. There are no benefits or foreseeable risks associated with this survey and it is completely anonymous. We would greatly appreciate it if we could start a new thread regarding this survey in your forum.

We greatly appreciate your assistance in this study, and once we have our results we will definitely share it with your members.

Here is the link to the survey

Sincerely,

If you're passing mustard, I suggest you get a professional to
"look into it."

I took your survery. - I'm surprised that there was no information based on risks of the procedure itself. This is more important to myself than costs. Maybe, your survey is trying to narrow the focus, but I think is important to note that 2% of patients that get a colonoscopy have their colons punctured!

I had a friend of mine that was 75 and had a colonoscopy and contracted an infection that put him down for 6 months. Lost 25% of his body weight, was rushed to the hospital twice in that 6 months from a 911 call, and just about died. That is all the colonoscopies for him.

Again maybe your survey does not care about this at all. But I had this in the back of my mind for every question that I answered. Cost was not even a factor. A less invasive procedure is needed. If 2% of airplanes crashed during their flight, I would not fly either.

Re: Cancer Study --- Link Posted!!!

Thanks for mentioning that point. I never thought it would make such an impact on people's willingness to pay. The focus of this study is however strictly based on costs and its effects. However the risks associated with the procedure would make for a nice follow up study Thanks.
