Cleaning out the stuff

Maybe, just maybe, this Craig's list thing has potential. :)

The stuff in my town seems to be over priced and poor quality so I haven't bought anything. But I just sold some stuff. An old bike for $25. A wool rug for $100. Neither buyer dickered. Each sold within a few hours. I also have another old bike, a bat house (never used), Greg's old childhood high chair, and some other junk, including free plastic landscape edging, with no bites yet.

Beats a rummage sale. Posting pictures seems to help.

Martha - if that old wool rug was an oriental Sally and I would have been very interested - that's our one big vice. Mostly Caucasian and Balouch, but a fair smattering of other tribal stuff, including a bunch of Navajo....

We have an alley in the back of the house where we free cycle stuff. Someone took our busted garage door opener last week. It would not have been worthy of Craigslist

Thanks for the tip, just searched my local craigs list and found a used chair lift at 1/3 the price of a new one. Won't fit my home but will keep looking.

A bat house:confused:??

Like a bird house, but the opening is on the bottom so they hang upside down. Bats eat huge amounts of bugs and they're neat to watch.

Yeah I get rid of all my stuff on Craigslist, Freecycle, or Goodwill. Depends on lots of random arbitrarily decided factors :)

I almost always price something $10-$20 higher on Craigslist than I want to sell it for, and then I wait for the usual negotiation to bring me 'down'.

With over 200 new posts a day on the Oahu Craigslist, spouse won't even click on a post that doesn't have a picture. Dimensions, colors, and dates/ages are a big help. (We're talking about furniture here, not some of the seamier parts of Craigslist.) It's also good to know if the seller had the item in a house with smokers-- we've gone to look at things that left our eyes watering.

We've included phone numbers with our ads and had a call within 20 minutes. People must be on the board all day or have a data feed.

I'm looking for a used van right now and I'm constantly amazed at the number of people who post car/truck "for sale" ads on the SF Bay Area CL with little or no information about the vehicle.

You might learn it is a Ford van if you are lucky. Mileage, engine, transmission, short or long wheelbase, year, model, general condition etc are seldom included. There's one that does have a photo and looks like a possibility, but they didn't include any contact info in the ad. ::)

I wonder if the people trying to sell "mystery vehicles" actually get any inquiries? I skip anything that I can't reasonably qualify as something I might be interested in.

Listing in the ad the answers to the standard questions doesn't seem like a really difficult concept to grasp.

Then there's the "body and paint is perfect" Econoline that I went to look at. I must admit that in the spots where the body wasn't crunched/scratched/rusted the paint did look pretty good. :)

cheers,
Michael

They may be idiots, but that's where the best prices can be found.

Spouse's one exception to her "no pictures, no pursuit" rule was a high-end fridge for less than one-third of retail. We chased that one for two months and were wondering if we were dealing stolen goods. Still not sure...

Is that a "real" poncho, or is that a Sears poncho?

THAT'S the line that wouldn't jog out of my head and onto the page! Thankyou! Zappa, yes?

Hooray!
Contracts out today on our "other house". Looks like its sold. Buyers said they saw it on craigslist.

Whodathunkit?

She had that
Camarillo brillo
Flamin' out along her head,
I mean her Mendocino bean-o
By where some bugs had made it red

She ruled the Toads
of the Short Forest
And every newt in Idaho
And every cricket who had chorused
By the bush in Buffalo

She said she was
A Magic Mama
And she could throw a mean Tarot
And carried on without a comma
That she was someone I should know

She had a snake for a pet
And an amulet
And she was breeding a dwarf
But she wasn't done yet
She had gray-green skin
A doll with a pin
I told her she was awright
But I couldn't come in
(I couldn't come in right then...)

And so she wandered
Trough the door-way
Just like a shadow from the tomb
She said her stereo was four-way
An' I'd just love it in her room

Well, I was born
To have adventure
So I just followed up the steps
Right past her fuming incense stencher
To where she hung her castanets

She stripped away
Her ranchid poncho
An' laid out naked by the door
We did it till we were un-concho
An' it was useless any more

She had a snake for a pet
And an amulet
And she was breeding a dwarf
But she wasn't done yet
She had gray-green skin
A doll with a pin
I told her she was awright
But I couldn't come in
(actually, I was very busy then)

And so she wandered
Trough the door-way
Just like a shadow from the tomb
She said her stereo was four-way
An' I'd just love it in her room

Well, I was born
To have adventure
So I just followed up the steps
Right past her fuming incense stencher
To where she hung her castanets

She said she was
A Magic Mama
And she could throw a mean Tarot
And carried on without a comma
That she was someone I should know

(Is that a real poncho...I mean
Is that a Mexican poncho
or is that a Sears poncho?
Hmmm...no foolin'
