computer warranty

I have received a letter from Dell offering a 3 year warranty extension for the desktop (Dimension B110) for $199. PC is 2 years old.

Is this a good idea?

No I dont think so. Not when you can buy a brand new desktop for dirt cheap anymore.

Every time I've researched this, the answer comes out "bad idea." For laptops, for teenagers, maybe.

If it doesn't die in the first 30 days, it will probably last until it is so obsolete that you can't give it away.

Definitely not. If you can get the 3 year onsite warranty for $60-70, which they do offer from time to time, that may be a decent deal.

Not $199 for an extra 3 on a 2 year old machine. Chances are nothing will go wrong with it at this point, and if something does you can get a refurbished unit with no monitor for $200 or less.

Theres an Inspiron 530s desktop in the outlet right now with a dual core processor and 250gb hard drive for $249. Much better machine than a B110.
