I wasn't sure whether to put this in the "Young Dreamers" Forum or the "Life after FIRE" so I put it here.

To celebrate Labor Day, the NYTimes column "Schott's Vocab" asked for definitions of Work.

He got some good ones. Starting with:

"work is what happens when you are not busy making other plans"
— karen lyons kalmenson

"Work is what affords you the means to do other things, while simultaneously taking away the time to do those things."
— D. Feiertag, Denver, CO

"Work is for people who lacked the foresight to be born wealthy."
— D. Feiertag, Denver, CO

Work is what one is obliged to do.
--Mark Twain

The quote they always put in the yearbook under the photo of an underachiever:

Work, I love it; I could sit and stare at it all day.

Work is what you do to earn a living.

That's the way I've always looked at it.

Audrey

Work is something you do to get enough money so you don't have to.
