Did I get a good deal on this car??

I Loathe buying cars. I like my car, and hadn't really planned on getting a new (to me) one just yet- maybe fall or spring. I'd have been content to keep this one a while longer but my husband doesn't like it- its too small for him. Anyway, I saw one I thought looked like a decent deal and thought I'd take advantage of low car sales to get a good deal.

The dealership was jammed with people- and they took my temp and handed me gloves and a mask when I walked in. Anyway, I drove 2, (salesman sat in the back seat) liked one and he quoted me a price I thought was too high. With the doc fees ($800!) and other stuff (taxes were $1000.) it came to $24700. I offered them $22,500, and they accepted.

Its a 2018 Subaru Outback with 26K miles on it. Its a Premium trim level with every feature I wanted except push button start. Good deal or not?

You could look it up on kbb.com or edmunds.com. To get the most accurate price, you need to put in as many specifics as you can.

I don't know the answer to your question but it's way too late to be asking since you've already purchased it. You should be happy with the price since you are the one who came up with it.

Enjoy your new wheels.

I use Truecar to see what a particular model is selling for locally. It provides a bell curve of actual prices. Costco will also give you a no haggle price as a maximum to pay.

But since you already bought it, why bother?

Looks like you got a fair price, maybe even a good price. https://www.kbb.com/subaru/outback/2...condition=good

We paid $36K for our 2016 Outback Limited with all the safety bells. Now have over 50,000 miles with zero mechanical issues. I hope you enjoy your Subbie as much as we have.

Thanks all- I wasn't aware that those websites could tell you what average prices paid are. Ignoring the ridiculous doc fee and subtracting the taxes, it looks like I did get a pretty good deal. I like the car and plan on keeping it a long time. Going to pick it up this afternoon.

I hadn't signed anything or given them any money- we did the negotiating (partly) by text. I probably hadn't bought it yet at that point, but headed to the dealership soon.

Get a no haggle price from Costco and then negotiate down from there. The dealers will bid against each other via email.

Go ask the same question at a place like:
https://www.subaruoutback.org/thread...58858/page-365

2.4L or 3.6L engine? Eyesight or not? Which options? All these make a big difference.

You can browse the above to find out what people paid for the car new. In general, 15% to 20% below MSRP seems to be a good deal on new cars. I don't know about used ones.

Sorry to be cynical, but don't be surprised if they try to charge you more when you go back. If they do, I'd suggest you leave.

Enjoy your new (to you) car. DD has a Forester, she lets me drive and it's a great car. DW also has a Subaru.

I live in a mountainous climate where Subaru's are the predominant species. In 2004, I bought a 90k mile, 1996 Legacy. Gave it away at 166,000 miles. Great car. Bought a 2009 Impreza in 2010. Gave it to DS in 2011. Great car. Bought a 2003 Legacy in 2006. Still have it as it only has 166k miles on it.

I see many great Subaru's from 2009 to 2019 on Autotrader. Since my 2003 is working and paid for, I am only looking.

I hope you are happy with your purchase.

Welcome to the Subaru world. We bought our first last fall after a lifetime of Hondas. DW favoured the Crosstrek but for 5k less the Impreza won. Have enjoyed it through our first winter, although a very tame one. Enjoy!

That's for new cars, at least AFAIK. OP is looking at a used car.
