Got back from store. A dozen egg was $2.99. A loaf of break $2.

I'm going to try putting myself on a 1 egg, 1 toast a day diet. Test my own will power.

Wish I could find bread at $2. We've been paying twice that for years now. Of course, that's whole grain and not white bread. YMMV

Heh, heh, speaking of which, our bill just caught up with us (we paid ahead just to be certain.) We used 82 KWh and our charges (all 9 of them) come out to almost $45 which averages to almost 55 cents per KWh. Of course, a lot of the bill is not specifically charge/KWh.

So, the less we use, the more we pay per KWh (on average.) Next month should be even worse (better??) as we will have been gone the full month. The faster I run, the further I get behind.

YMMV

Got a new menu in the mail for a local pizza place. A plain pizza went up 17.8% from $12.30 to $14.50.

I just finished my late 1 egg, 1 toast breakfast (I have other stuff too like fruits and juice for breakfast).

My conclusion is I think will be easy to cut down and really didn't' miss the extra. At least after day 1 .

Our favorite pizza place (been going there for over 50 years - still in the same family) is up over 25% in last two years. Used to be also that carryout was 10 minutes. Now 25. They have help wanted posters all over the front window. YMMV

Ours is $3.29 for Nature's Own Honey Wheat Bread. Nothing fancy, but 70 calories/slice IIRC and we like it.

As for pizza, we haven't had pizza in years. We're getting too old to eat pizza and not gain weight.

The water bill (and sewage)

We get billed every 2 months. Our meter includes our granny flat - which has 3 people living in it. Last year we had both sons living at home for the billing period. This year, only hubby and I (plus the 3 tenents).

It went up over $100/2 months YOY
Our usage was 60% of last year.

This is because some of the fixed fees increased dramatically to pay for our "toilet to tap" project. And because the HCF fees also went up dramatically this year.

We do very little irrigation - mainly drip lines on our fruit trees. No pool. We practice "yellow is mellow" habits.

$359/2 months.

All this disposable woven stuff is going up. Furnace filters, disposable mops, etc.

I've switched from Swiffer wet wipes to a bamboo mop handle with a cloth head. I am not an enviro-nut. Yet, I feel like this makes a small difference. No plastic, renewable resource, and I just rinse off the mop head when done. I use a weak vinegar and water solution for the floors. Smells bad, works great, doesn't damage any of the flooring. Finally, these rig fights inflation.

I buy bread at a coffe shop near Johnstown on the way to camp. The owner and his wife make a few dozen a day. $9.- for a loaf Rye. Nice and dense, get to chew on it. Reminds me of the bread we got in Hungary as a kid. Unlike the fluffed air "wonder bread" in supermarkets, which I referred to forty years ago as: It is a wonder they can call it bread.

Also buy bread made by nearby Monastery of Monks. They raised the price to $6 from $5 some months ago.

No preservatives of any kind in either the bread made by the monks or the cafe owner. He has not changed price in a year or two. He ither takes the hit for the customers, or anticipated ingredient cost rise a few years ago, and pre padded the price. Both are well worth the $.

My favorite yogurt was 4.99 for the big size. Then 5.99. Today it is $6.49. This occurred in about a year.

I bought my favorite scotch today, 15-year old Glenlivet single malt. It was $69.95, the same as it has been for a few years. [emoji4]

Our plan was $77 for 2 lines, so $12 is a bit over 15%. The price has been falling for a number of years, so it’s difficult to average out the $12, but it’s a big increpase and there are options. Consumer Cell is one, T Mobile another. I’ll start looking at options over the next couple of days.

Our AT&T bill went up almost $10. We went ahead and paid it, but are reviewing options. We have looked at consumer cellular as they seem to be pretty good. I’m concerned that will change since a private equity group bought them.

8 pack of 12 oz. Sodas is now $6.99. It keeps going up as the regular price. We wait for sales and we scored 4 8 packs for $12 which comes out to $3 per 8 pack. I told DW if they can be on sale every couple weeks they could sell them at a lower price all the time. Some of this just doesn’t make sense. I drink 1 every few days and DW drinks a Dr Pepper over a couple of days so it’s not hard to hold out and it’s one of our small indulgences.
