Four more years!!!

Just dug out my old work laptop (a fine pentium 3 500 mhz machine with a massive 128mb of ram, for you nerdly types).

Still has all my old email, all my old powerpoints, my old reviews...all of which made for some nerve clenching reading. Man am I glad that I'm not there anymore. I had to wash up after I finished reading for an hour or so. Wiped it clean.

I did note two things though...a copy of my 'separation' papers, dated 7/2/2001. I knew it was summer of that year, but now I've got an actual anniversary.

Its been four good years. In the first few minutes of reading all those old emails and documents the stirrings of "hey, I might call the old boss, get a part time gig a few hours or a day or two a week, start moving and shaking again..." before I hit a gaggle of nasty political horsepuckey.

So i've decided to run for re-election. Four more years of early retirement. Can you all join me? Four more years! Four more years!

Other thing I ran across was the dang dilbert cartoon that the engineers kept sending me. Wish I hadnt deleted it along with the rest of the detrius. Dilbert is finishing a project and thinks "this is so bulletproof it would take a squadron of idiots to screw it up!"....'meanwhile...over in marketing'..."It is *not* ok to use my ears as coasters when I'm napping!".

Four more years! Four more years!

Re: Four more years!

By the way, this old sled (which is now my 'lanai computer' as Nords would say) runs XP fine with firefox and is just delightful for web surfing. While i'm enjoying the old trackpoint (none of my newer lappies have it) and the springy keyboard, the 'trackpoint hand' irritation I used to have took all of 5 minutes to come back. Two parts of the hand are feeling pretty pingy right now.

Wonder if I can file for disability or something...

Humm? Disability caused by the rigorous strain of ER. Maybe?

Me too. I got use to it. I was real pleased when I got my 1st none-IBM laptop with a touchpad. My Dell laptop is only 2 years old and still came with both.

Re: Four more years!!!

4 more years indeed! You have my vote!
In FIRE I am using my computer so much more that I do not want to be cheap on that side, but even then I find it very hard to find an excuse these days for exchanging a well functioning laptop. It seems the "processor speed race" and the hard disk race have kind of slowed down - and as most PCs are easy to upgrade with RAM it does not make much sense to change.
Ah; Dilbert... real life office documentaries.......
