Best of luck ahead, Mead. Enjoyed your inputs over the years.

(Personally, I always wonder what's behind these decisions. Taking a break is different from 'gone travelling'. Has the forum become too time consuming? Too emotionally trying? Health issues? Not worth the effort? )

Besides, we received no notice of Mead's leaving. Don't we deserve some notice?

Also, we received no opportunity to persuade to stay or OMY or anything like that. It ain't fair.

I enjoyed your posts but wish you would have explained why you decided to formally leave. Such a decision (as opposed to just tuning out for a while) would seem to signal a substantial negative reaction to something about the forum. Those of us left behind can't help but wonder what led to your decision. In any event, I wish you well.

I would guess it would have something to do with the 2nd to last post before the goodbye. I thought it was a good informative post, especially in it's original form, btw. I'm not looking to generate discussion about that. Just offering a possible explanation that the goodbye didn't come out of the blue.

Agreed. It appeared to me at the time that there were numerous simmering political opinions being suppressed.

Went back and looked. I suspect that may have been it.

This is quite unfortunate.

Perhaps I will give it a few months and then when I see an especially wise poster who shows up as new, I will quietly tell myself perhaps Mead has reconsidered. One can only hope.

Stay well.

Thank you for all of your help meadbh, your insight and valuable data has been quite helpful here. I always feel a sense of loss when a member "retires" from the forum. I myself took a break for quite a while, I never could remember my old ER id.

11,000+ posts is prolific indeed! Thanks for that graphic, it's really helped me explain the market cycles quickly to people who otherwise dont care.

No doubt, there is an underlying bias on this forum.

I tend to think she will be back. I have noticed (in other forums) that when people start a thread to say, "That's it! I am LEAVING!!!" it's because they are annoyed. But, after they cool down and start to miss the interaction, the come back. The ones who *actually* leave FOR GOOD just stop posting. There one day, gone the next.

I have met Meadbh in person and she is a treat. I always looked forward to her contributions here. She is the second of the people I follow who has left this year. In both cases, I think there was some judgement expressed in the forum that made them feel uncomfortable to express their own feelings. Since they are retired and have sufficient money to live, why should they hang out where they might feel stifled?
