Google posting Popular Mechanics Archive

For you tinkerers, the full archive of Popular mechanics is now online.

I found a wonderful set of articles for building a vertical windmill generator online. Very quiet. put it on your roof top or even just in the yard.

Cool, I thought this was a duplicate post, but that was Pop Science recently. Here are the links:

Regarding that windmill... we had a discussion on personal windmills a while back. The commercial ones produced so little actual power that the payback (even after govt credits) was probably negative. Maybe a DIY model can be made cheaply enough, but the problem is that winds at ground and rooftop levels just are not high enough enough of the time to generate much power.

There is a reason that most of the commercial units are 300' tall!

edit - what issue was that article? I found lots of hits on windmill going back to the 20's!
