After trying google voice for 3 months, I think it is a great way to save on long distance costs- free calls in the US and cheap international. Only downside is that we log into the google voice account to make the call- but worth the savings for the minute it takes.
We travel each weekend to our cabin, and will spend quite a bit of time there once DH retires in spring. Google voice follows us so to speak to each location, and emails us missed calls and/or messages. Provided family with the google voice number- they do not need to worry about our schedule.
I'm too cheap for an Iphone, and even our cell is noncontract minutes meant for emergencies.
Google voice is worth a look!
