Some folks in the neighborhood who left out bowls were surprised to find a group of teenagers take the bowl of candy.

We had 11 kids.
We have a bunch of Reese's peanut butter chocolates left over, it's all that I buy in case we end up with leftovers

I handed out the candy, used our camera's to see when folks were approaching. I handed out the candy through the open window in the screen door.

Many folks here are retired, all the kids are gone.

When we were young , it was go without parents, use a pillowcase, fill it twice, some treats were bags of popcorn, apples, walk around in the dark.

Times are different.

Maybe this is a Wisconsin thing but a lot of the parents that are with their children have a alcoholic drink as they are going
And have no problem getting a refill!

We’ve seen that here in central PA. The parents have beer and the kids have sugar.

The best arrangement I've seen was some years ago. We lived in a small subdivision where everyone had a five acre lot. Unpretentious houses, just lots of land. The way it worked was one of our neighbors made a haywagon and pulled it behind his tractor. At the official start of trick-or-treat hours, the neighborhood kids were loaded on the wagon and driven from house to house where they could do their thing. Some parents went along, sipping on their drinks, while others just congregated at the starting house and gossiped.

Everyone loved it, and since every house knew that there would only be two or three runs of the haywagon throughout the evening, they could afford to be generous with the handouts. It was a great system.

Now we live in a condo on a cul-de-sac at the top of a hill, and there are no TorT kids at all. We miss it a little.

we only had 10-kids at the door this year. one tiny tot with an older sister, group of 7-middle sdhoolers (all guys) and a pair of middle-school girls. the group of boys were accompanied by an adult who stayed in the street. all of the above kids rang our doorbell. each kid took one piece and then a second when we said it was alright. i witnessed two or three large groups of kids being escorted by adults bypass our driveway. it's possible that they were just going to homes that had other kids.

I haven't seen a trick-or-treater in 30+ years. When we lived in MD, the houses were too far apart. Plus, schools and churches had already started holding Halloween parties to keep kids off the street.

Nowadays, it almost seems like Halloween is more of an adult holiday. The house decorations can be as elaborate as Christmas decorations.

I wouldn't dream of letting my young kid go around by herself in the dark, the way I did from ages 9 through 12 (ages 6-9, my sister went around with me).
