I am only stating that instead of giving money to a funeral home to hold for "X" amount of years until you die, why not just give it to your kids to "hold" for you to pay for your funeral expenses. I am only talking like $20,000 or so. Not your entire portfolio. SMH....
Many of the kids just spend your money and nothing left for your funeral. Trust me i see that all the time.

But by pre-paying at FH takes that amount of money out of your name as an asset., and it FREEZES all the FH costs at today prices. When you die your kids just call FH and everything is paid for already . If not your kids have to pay all current costs . Also they then have to make all of he detailed arrangements to that you left on there plate.

Oh. Yes- for sure. Having everything planned out so your kids don't have to deal with it is a good thing about prepaying at the funeral home.

And naturally- you have to know your kids well. If they are irresponsible losers- you definitely don't want to give them your money.

Me- I just want to be cremated and my ashed spread on my favorite lake. Easy peasy. he can then go out to dinner with any left over money. My son should be able to handle that.

Just be aware of the pitfalls of prepaying funeral costs. there are lots of articles about the problems with it on line. Here are two:

The difference is that Medicaid will not come after funds paid to a funeral home, whereas funds paid to kids to "hold" are up for grabs during the claw back period.

You think just because you are being cremated its easy. NOPE, the new cremation laws are detailed and we FH have to follow them. As example , if you have 4 kids and your wife is deceased, all 4 kids MUST sign cremation forms. All have equal rights. Many times just 1 kid says no to cremation or refuses to sign , because they have not spoke to other kids in years, it will hold up everything for the rest of the kids. If you pre plan and sign your own forms ahead of time, all done . We don’t need the kids to sign anything. You sign for yourself to be cremated. If not all the kids have to come into FH and sign. They may live all over the country. A nightmare for us at
The FH.
