HGTV: Another cherished illusion busted.

A Washington Post reporter takes HGTV's "FreeStyle" to the woodshed in an article titled "My $1000 Free TV Makeover".

(I'm posting this as an e-mail linked article so it might come up for non-registered readers without being bugged about registration.)

"During the audition phase, the producer allowed as how the reality show really does budget $200 or so to spend on each apartment. I promised not to mention this during my fleeting appearances on camera." And things went downhill from there...

Now I'm afraid that I'm gonna learn that Gail O'Neill & Candice Olson aren't what they seem either!

Ha! I always was suspicious about finding great stuff stashed away in other rooms:

The crew, meantime, was peeling off price tags and planting $1,000 worth of newly purchased furniture and accessories in other rooms. Then later, we could conveniently "find" them, exclaiming how great this lamp, those pillows and that bamboo mat would work in the living room.
