How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
It's not that I'm afraid to die. I just don't want to be there when it happens.
(Woody Allen)
At some point the Early Retired are not going to be early anymore.
All good things come to an end - like JG leaving the forum.
Have you made peace with your coming demise - are there some questions still?
Some questions that could be answered by our forum?
I still have questions and concerns - although I know I have to just accept it and go with it - kind of like Olympic Curling...
It's not a laughing matter - but humor is one of my approaches and also being of service to others in some way.

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
I had to face that on Christmas eve 2005 when the doctor said you have cancer in your kidney and enlarged lymph nodes from the spleen and you have a spot in your lung.
Humm, Doc? *Does that mean I'm a dead man walking?
I only fear being in a bed with no control over my fate. *Apologies to all but I want to be , "the captain of my ship and the master of my fate".
It does irk me that the damn gov't gets to keep my Soc. Sec and my life's savings will probably be eaten up by dying instead of living.

Dying does not bother me as the thought of actually living residing in a nursing home after age 80!

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
How do I feel about my upcoming death?
I'll answer a question with a question: *Why do you think I want to retire early and spend more time living, and less time working?
I gonna live till I die. * I'm gonna laugh 'stead of cry.
And like Paul Newman said in a western, "We all die, it's just a matter of when."
Hopefully, with some luck, brainpower, willpower, and whatever else you want to call it, death won't happen for many more decades.
Besides, my current plan is to stay young.

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
DanTien,
Thanks for asking. I'm improving physically everyday. I lose the urine drain on Tuesday and the blood drain next Monday. I'll be bag-free, stent-fee, catheter-free, tube-free and pill-free at last.
"but this I tell, to thee...", I will fight the good fight, I will not go quietly and yes, I may even rail but I will go on my terms, at the helm and facing my fate. It won't be left to others to decide.
I take comfort that I have that choice.

Which reminds me...not to preach, but get a colonoscopy if you are 50 or over. I just went through that, wasn't half bad at all, and it caught a few polyps that are the precursors to potential cancerous growth. Your life will thank you for it.

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
Eikther we'll be gone without any further thoughts in this plane, or on to the next. Either way, meh.
As far as this life, I have no regrets and up until my son showed up, didnt feel like i'd missed anything. Now I want to see his whole life play out.

Do you know something I don't know?
I'm going to avoid too much thought about this eventuality, and do my best to enjoy what is left. After all, sometimes I seem surrounded by folks that want to make it as unpleasant as possible ... we need to even the odds for happiness here.

Thank you Completely Fulla BS - There's an idea for my own death - a sex death
Actually, we could form a company and sell a guaranteed good death with a killer sex last act....

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
"No woman ever slept with me and lived!"
Graham Chapman as captain Yellowbeard, Yellowbeard, 1983
A fine movie. What film with monty python, cheech and chong, madeline kahn, marty feldman and peter boyle could possibly suck?

No, no, you're Completely Fulla BS on this one. It was:
"No woman ever lived with me and slept!"
Jarhead as Captain Wheatbread, A Wave, a WAC and a Marine, 1944

Re: How Do You Feel About Your Upcoming Death
I'm gonna die? When?
I really don't fear death. I'm not trying to make an appointment, but I am at peace with the people who matter to me. I don't have any burning desires to get some specific thing done or experience something before I go. I hope I get a lot of things done and have a lot of experiences, but I don't feel an urgent need to get something checked off a list of things to do before I die.
I do fear pain and suffering -- both mine and my loved ones'. I hope I don't wither away slowly and painfully. But I may not get to decide that.

True- I went to the urologist last year, and as we were finishing up he asked again how old I was.... and said "well, I should probably check your prostate".... ugh.... I knew what that meant. Apparently I have a fabulous prostate, and finding that out wasn't quite as horrible as everyone makes it sound... so grin and bear it, get it done... i'm sure it's better than cancer.
