Been a couple decades since I dealt with this. Some show dealer retail, others wholesale purchase & selling prices... I recall a "black" book as well.

I like Edmunds online. Will tell you value of used car given options, condition, etc.

From the little I have gleened over the years there is a black book and it seems most dealerships use this AND it has a really low number... or they look at the number and put a discount on it before offering it to you...

I’m pretty sure the actual number of books that exist is unlimited or it’s 42 but they are all being replaced by the internet.

NADA- vehicle values on vehicle makers lot only.
Red Book- vehicle values on dealer lots-any makers.
Black Book- wholesale values used by most dealers- auction results driven
Edmonds- Vehicle values on all reporting dealers-new and used lots
Kelly Blue Book- Dealer asking price, private party price, wholesale price.

I am sure there are more, just these are the ones I have used in the past.
