I would take it to a locksmith if you don't know how to fix it. If all it needs it cleaning, they probably won't charge you or a very minimal charge. As Walt said, if you want it because of how it looks, that's a good reason to see a locksmith as well.

It would also be a good reason to go to a locksmith if it is a higher end lock. Everyone says you can get one for $15, but go look at a good one. They're not $15. Personally, I have a nice key lock on my bedroom door. I think it was $30-$40.
