A good year for me is we all end the year in good health and spirits, with lots of shared time.

Financially, it would be nice if the portfolio grew to offset the withdrawals + COL. Still, I’d rather see my children improve their financial well-being through saving and solid double digit investment returns.

My portfolio target for 2010 is 8% before withdrawal.

2009 was a lot better for us than 2008, when we felt a lot of financial uncertainty as DH ER'd a couple years earlier than planned. 2009 was okay for us financially--first full year of ER and portfolio kept pace with withdrawals, so that was a bonus in our planning. Only the health issues of a dear family member kept 2009 from being great, but she's doing well at the moment--yay! So onward to 2010.

For just a second there I thought you were confronted with having to withdraw 8% of your portfolio this year.

But whew... never mind.
