I'm Back -- What a Storm!

Just a quick note to say I'm back online after 12 days. I don't know what kind of coverage this storm got, but it was incredible. 90 MPH winds, and giant trees down like corn stalks. Power out for a week, cable just came on, phone is now out.

Wish I could give you a feeling for what it looks like in some places here. Around the area where this photo was taken there are over 50 huge trees down.

More Later.

T-Al,

Wow. I wondered where you had been, but thought you were just having a tough time getting over the New Year gig you guys did.

Did you have any damage to your property? Is the beaver OK?

Re: I'm Back -- What a Storm!

Did "forced inactivity" have any effect? I think it would take some of those big trees smashing about to get me to do nothing for a while. What did you do TA? Good practice for RE?

Re: I'm Back -- What a Storm!

There was some forced inactivity due to the power outage. I generally like power outages, but it gets old after a while. Had to throw away four frozen chickens and hors d'oeuvres for about 100 people.

We had to cancel the dance, but rescheduled it as the Second Chance New Year's Dance that we'll have this weekend.

We watched one big branch fall from a huge tree on our property. Amazing to watch the big spruces wave back and forth. I'm going to have a tree guy evaluate future risks.

Here are some shots a neighbor took.

You might also ask what the tree is worth to a mill.

Since you have not been here in a while I was starting to wonder if you were on "Tour" with the band or were having some quality time with the beaver.

Glad you are OK. Looks like a very nasty storm.

Northern California. Eureka area I think.

Al, the news coverage in Sacramento didn't cover that far north. It stopped at the Napa flooding.
Those are some big trees down; what a mess.

Re: I'm Back -- What a Storm!

Not this year. We've had a lot of flooding so far in various parts of CA.
The little creek behind my house turned into a large pond/small lake.

Thats SOUTHERN california, and they get plenty too.

Its rained about 22 out of the last 25 days here in the central valley north of sacramento. On some days, the word 'rain' didnt quite cover it. My satellite strength dropped from 98% down to below 60% :P

I'm a little further south, but I'm starting to like this global warming too! 60-70+ degree days in the middle of winter! Can't beat that.

Re: I'm Back -- What a Storm!

Howard, get off it. You are in Southern ON, and there is one hell of a difference between Thornbury and Thunder Bay.

Here in London, we have no snowcover at all. Most unusual for mid-January.

We are about the same as Detroit and Chicago, so anything goes for the next couple of months.

The Lakes are all wide open (no ice) so we are vulnerable for a big dump from Lake Huron!
