Nords is headed to the mainland next week and he and I will be getting together in San Antonio for a lunch of spicy Tex-Mex food. We will be discussing kayaks, bunnies wearing pancakes, wheat bread and other related subjects. We haven't yet settled on a specific day, but are looking at either Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. If any of you would like to join us please send me a PM with your preference for a meeting day.

Oh yeah, don't worry about blowing your cover. We will be wearing these:

You will be able to recognize Nords since his will have a hole in back with a pony tail hanging out. Kinda reminds me of old Ned on viewing day...

The good news is that my spouse will be attending the military's national Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officer conference while just a few blocks away I'll be spending her per diem on our own version of disaster planning...

I'm really looking forward to good Tex/Mex cuisine. Around here the "good" qualifier is usually limited to two ever-changing places, one of which thinks Spam is a legitimate burrito-stuffer and the other of which has worn out their franchise's mariachi CD. Ain't gonna be no Taco Bell on this trip!

Oh, now I get it-- it's a very big ponytail, too...

Swell...considering that in another thread many people confess to not knowing what day of the week it is. That oughta make it real anonymous...everyones going to show up on different days!

Nah! We'll all show up on the same day...Nords will think it's Thursday, but I'll know it's Tuesday. Everyone else who shows up can choose to call it whatever day they want. ;)

Sorry I may not be able to join in, but if you are going to dine in the downtown area of SA, Mi Tierra at the El Mercado (Mexican Market) is pretty-much been established as the best in the area. La Fogata may beat it, but it is about 5 miles north of downtown SA.

I'm currently in the process of picking up a few bucks of spending money so I will be in and out of town during the next few months. If you can decide on a date and I am around perhaps I can join in. ::)

Those are two of the best tourista restaurants in the area. I'm taking Nords to a place where the locals eat. Better food, lower prices, fewer Mariachi's. ;)

Really wish you could join us.

It's a wee bit of a drive, but I am sorely tempted just to meet the man behind the prolific writing. Heck, I would almost go just to find out the inside scoop on good mexican food in SA. It may come down to a last minute decision, so can I be on the might show list?

Modified to ad: Of course, my decision to come might be greatly influenced by the knowledge that we will be introducing Sr. Nords to Negra Modelo or Dos Equis.

Considering he reports often buying a six pack of beer and still having 4-5 left over a year later...you might be making considerable introductions...

My beer research days are behind me (although I've done quite a bit of testing on those particular brands), but I'm happy to share my findings and to provide samples to go with the conclusions!

Drive it if it's not a pain, Leo, but don't knock yourself out. Almost everyone on this board comes to Hawaii sooner or later...

Nice little drive to San Antone, but I might be able to do Thursday or Friday. Tuesday is a w*** day...

:D :D

Thank God it's 2007!

Spent 3 mos. in San Antonio on a business trip in late 70's.

Walking into a spot with a guy wearing a pony-tail, would have given both of you an opportunity to polish up your ass-kicking skills. :D

Anyway, you guys have a good time, and if my ears turn red, I'll know what that's about.

Have fun.

You are the first to suggest a particular day, and as far as I know we can go with Thursday. But only if you promise to show up. ;)

If you wear a wide brim hat when you're out playing cow pasture pool next week you won't have to worry about your ears turning red.

Which Taco Cabana would that be? :D

Since you can't make it, you'll just have to guess. ;)

Actually Taco Cabana isn't half bad...especially if you've ever eaten at a Gringo Bell. Not only that, I made a few bucks on their stock when they were bought out a few years back.

I've been to the El Chap a number of times and I recommend the flautas (sic?). I recall going there a few times on the way back from Bandera Downs (when it was a racing venue) and on the way to Floores Country Store to drop in on a Willie Nelson get-together.

When a date/time is settled on make sure that you announce it. I'm in/out of SA all the time lately so I may make it. 8)

Trivia: Helotes is named after corn. Elote is an ear of corn on the cob in Spanish.

The Ol' Rancher can be there. I live one hour north to Blanco Texas then 10 miles west half way to Stonewall. I moved here from Austin so I don't knoiw San Antonio as well as I should. I try to keep to the north of the airport if I must shop at a big box or such.

I will need that PM to find the Restaurant. Spring is near the next rain will produce a lot of new grass for cattle and the early wildflowers. I have been cutting downed trees from the January ice storm.

Yee Haw!

Ah, well, Tuesday is not doable for me, but have a cerveza and some free-holeys for me...

The Dow may have been dipping and the NASDAQ nosediving, but that didn't dampen the appetites of the four members of the ER forum who got together in "downtown" Helotes, TX today for some good Tex-Mex. Shown here ordering from the menu are (L to R), REWahoo!, Leslie, sc, and Nords.

Leslie said it best: ER forum members are just as nice in person as they are on the board.

A good time was had by all.

PS: sc was a little late in getting there but had no trouble in locating us. He just shouted out "Should I pay off my mortgage early?" and headed toward the sound of the argument. ;)

Great photo! It looks like you had great weather to go with the good company.

Nords, I didn't realize your ponytail was so curly! :)

Hey, I was just wandering around looking for the ponytailed guy in a Hawaiian shirt. It's not my fault if Nords didn't get the memo. ;)

Leslie, REWahoo, and Nords - it was a genuine pleasure to meet all of you.

REW - many thanks for organizing the inaugural SA-ER-Anon meeting. It was a bit of a drive but well worth it.

Great to meet all of you guys too! And thanks to REWahoo for organizing this! The weather is great here, but Nords was a little cold. :D

I would encourage anyone to GO if your area is having a ERACH (ER Anonymous Chapter Hospitality) meeting. Phoenix is next as I recall...
