Jodi Arias Murder Trial

Is anyone else following this murder trial?

As you may know, Jodi Arias is accused of murdering her former boyfriend, having traveled 1,000 miles from California to Arizona (by a torturous route) to his home, stabbing him some 27 times, slitting his throat ear-to-ear down to the spine, and shooting him in the face. She initially claimed during a police interrogation that she wasn't there, then the police told her they had photos of her there plus other damning evidence, so she claimed two intruders committed the murder, then now, almost five years later, claims it was all self-defense.

Today, Day #19 of the trial, after over a week of Arias being on the stand, her testimony finally got around to the day of the murder. Tomorrow, Day #20, we should get to the details of what went down. You can watch the trial live here, as it happens.

This trial surely brings a feeling of deja vu. A country's sports icon, accused of murder. The prosecutors say there's plenty of evidence to prove premeditated murder but the defense says no.

I am not following any murder trial. No time for this. I hope this comment does not sound too harsh but following this type of drama on TV or on the Internet, in my mind, is a waste of time.

Maybe for a doctor, but not for one who has worked some 35 years in criminal law. It's sorta like attending a legal training seminar for some. For others, it's just curiosity. Plus, I can do work on the computer while listening, and occasionally to the trial proceedings.

Yet you have (make?) the time to read (follow?) and comment on (contribute to?) threads about it...

Not following it in detail, but have seen a few clips here and there on the news...

I think she will be convicted.... I do not know the rules for execution there, but I would not be surprised if she got that sentence....

Yeah, who cares? It's only one of our three branches of government. I hope folks also don't waste their time following their local and federal executive and legislative branches of government.

I know the trial is going on but have not watched any of it. I have seen it on in the background at a restaurant/bar I frequent. What I have not researched or yet understand is why is this particular murder trial on tv and receiving this much publicity? Seems like there are likely dozens of murders each week in America where the girl friend or wife kills the husband. Were either of these people "famous" before this?

She can remember ordering a strawberry frappuccino during an incident years ago, but has no memory at all of how she stabbed him 27 times (many of those in the back) and slit his throat ear-to-ear, and dragging his body back into the shower. She definitely did not do well so far today, IMHO. The prosecutor has just been given a wide open field and better not fumble the ball when it's his turn to cross-examine. (Thanks to being ER'd, I can spend some time watching and learning. I should be getting some CLEs for this.)

Not really fair is it I bet you are not following all the other trials that are going on right now where you live (is this one happening where you live?)...

And the judiciary is one of the branches of gvmt that we can not do much about (well, in Texas we can because we elect the judges)....

In the same vein, have you been keeping track of George Zimmerman, the man accused of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin?

Or how about this new one

Direct examination of Arias just concluded. The prosecutor starts his cross-examination tomorrow morning (about 10:00 or 10:30 am Pacific Time). It should be a doozy. (Live video feed via this link.)

I did not realize those trials were being aired either on TV or the Internet this week. Please provide the links and I'll take a look.

But seriously, I have attended trials in person... many, many criminal trials. (I avoid most civil ones if I can help it.)

I am also a boxing fan. When some major boxing fights happen, I may visit and contribute to a Round-by-Round Forum. That was kinda my original wish here--to create a thread whereby those of us following this trial could post our comments.

With the above said:

The State's cross-examination starts tomorrow.

I am wondering whether the Prosecutor can now bring offer evidence of her stalking, tire slashing, car keying, invading Travis's e-mail, etc.--that he was prohibited by a pre-trial ruling--because the defense "opened the door" with all those text messages of Travis calling Jodi a psycho that they got admitted into evidence during Arias's testimony.

And now that she also claimed on the stand that Travis was a pedophile of sorts (what crap), can the prosecution now bring up her earlier attempts, when she was representing herself, to get admitted into the record forged evidence (supposedly letters he had written to her "admitting" that he was a pedophile). Have police figured out who forged these letters? It looks like this was her earlier attempt to smear the guy's character with false evidence.

I did not know there were rules about time requirements when answering a post :-)
