Levon Helm

In April of this year, we lost one of the real giants of music - Levon Helm, the only American member of The Band, who were the guys who backed Dylan when he went electric. Levon was one of those rare drummers who could sing your brains out while still filling a great back beat (I put Ringo in that category, too).

I first heard The Band when I was in high school and have been a fan ever since.

He was a remarkable and unique musician.

+1 on The Last Waltz. Scorsese directed, setting a standard for concert movies that has rarely been approached despite all of the advances in film and sound quality. Recommended for anyone's Netflix queue.
