In need of a new mattress, bought a cheap foam off Amazon that’s lasted less than 2 years before sagging, now I’m in search of something that will last a little longer than 18 months. I’m eyeballing sealy, then I saw Nest with a lifetime warranty and now I’m totally confused, leaning towards spring design, not trusting foam a whole lot now.

We like our Sleep Number that we got several years ago. DD recently bought a Casper and loves it (lots cheaper than Sleep Number).

Welcome to the hellhole of consumer purchases.
Too many options. Personal comfort is a big factor. Too many lies. Too many fake review sites.
I went thru this about a year ago. Severe brain hurt.

One place to start is I Am The Old Bed Guy

Look at Costco Sleep Science 100% latex mattress (not memory foam). Do not accept a mattress with a fancy-looking embroidered or sewn cover that uses a "non-descript foam" layer of even 1/2 inch on top to make the designs more prominent - this non-latex foam will flatten). 100% latex should not ever sag!

We got a latex-and-some-other-stuff mattress from Costco. After a few years it was sagging. Finally about year six I took it back to Costco for full refund (minus delivery fee as it was from ordered at an outside vender "special event")

Ordered from Costco a new Sleep Science latex mattress (6 inches of firm combined with 3 inches of medium). It was comfortable and firm. But I like plush. So I topped it with a convoluted latex topper (covered in organic wool and cotton) to make it a little softer and all is well with the world!

We have a sleep number knock-off in the RV - and I put an eggcrate latex topper on it also.

You might want to consider ordering your new mattress online and doing the "try before you buy" method with companies that offer free shipping and free returns.

That worked for us. Bought a Casper a couple of years ago and liked it so much we bought two more. Great product, great service, great night's sleep.

What a grand idea...cheap out on something you're going to spend a lot of time using. Foam mattresses are trash. People like them because they're cheap...thats it. You get what you pay for...now you have to spend more money. You'll learn. I like simmons beautyrest.

We just bought a Sleep Number and love it. Our old mattress was still in great shape, however, I have developed hip issues and couldn't stand the firmness of the old mattress anymore. DH likes his mattress firm so the Sleep Number was perfect.

Another vote for I Am The Old Bed Guy website. If you like research and expanding your knowledge this website will provide both.

If you want the quick answer... Charles P Rodgers is the best. Website charlesprogers.com. I bought a Powercore Nano about 3 years ago and it is great. The current price is about $2,500 delivered.

If you want a cheaper alternative, I can't help you.
Thanks for reading.

DW and I have been contemplating this for a while now. Our Orthopedic foam mattress, while now 15 years old still doesn't have any sagging. Use a 2" memory foam mattress pad on top for comfort but have been looking for a better option. Of all the varieties we are leaning towards either tuft and needle or onpurple. Got the free sample piece from onpurple and it certainly seems like it would work well to provide support without pressure points.

I've purchased 3 mattresses this year. Our old ones were over 20 years old and and the master bedroom was an all latex englander. Loved it but it was time...

We had two other mattresses to replace as well that were in guest/kid rooms; a recent move was the catalyst to replace them all. here's what I learned:

Mattress buying is expensive and complicated by lots of hype and store rebranding making it impossible to compare apples to apples.

I like natural latex and it's expensive so I checked out other options.

The first mattress we bought was a Purple mattress (not latex) for a guest room and I slept on it during our move for a few weeks. Not bad - but not great.

The next one was a caspar - hated that one and returned it. Returning was not so easy.

Next I ordered a Sleep on Latex mattress - 9 inch medium. Great bed but not quite plush enough. Kept this one however as it's a guest room.

For our master I ordered a Sleep on Latex, 9 inch medium plus a 2 inch soft topper. Perfect. Love this one as much as the old englander and after a few months of use, it's holding up well.

Check out this review site - it looks clunky but has a lot of great info.

Really tough to know what's a good value in a mattress these days - far too many choices in brands, firmness, materials, etc. However, my experience says paying more than $1K for a mattress is probably unnecessary as you can find good quality and comfort at or below that price.

We purchased an eLuxury mattress a year ago, paired with a plush mattress pad. We've been really happy with it.

My conventional (Sealy? Serta? I forgot) mattress started getting lumpy and uncomfortable after about 10 years. I went shopping for a temperpedic, then decided that if I should buy it, I also needed to get a bedroom set. My old mattress was just in a metal frame with headboard, which I didn't think would work for a temperpedic, although I didn't know. I found the bedroom set I wanted at Ashley, and altogether, I was setting myself up for a five figure cost for all of this which was pretty jump-off-the-cliff disheartening and upsetting.

I was ONE (1) day from pulling the trigger on all of this, when my dear, wonderful Frank suggested that I should try replacing the metal frame, which was old, beat up, and a little bent, just to see if that might help. I ordered a good metal frame from Amazon for $54.99, and what a miracle! All the lumps and bumps and valleys disappeared, and my old mattress felt as good as it had when brand new.

So for me, the cost was a mere $54.99. :D My mattress is now 15 years old and feels just perfect. I hope I don't have to replace it for a very long time, because nothing is getting any cheaper.

Had a latex foam mattress for about 15 years and tired of it. Purchased a Saatva mattress about 10 months ago and love it so far.

Have a tempurpedic we love, going on 12 years now.

For my spare bedroom I got a W Hotel mattress. They are often on sale for a good chunk off, a very nice cushy firm traditional style, when I sleep on it on occasion (DH snores) it's very comfy.

IMO the crucial detail that is often overlooked is whether you’re a back, side or stomach sleeper. Back sleepers can be comfortable on a wider range of firmness levels? DW and I are side (the toughest to fit?), stomach sleepers and we could not get comfy on a Sleep Number, but I’m convinced it would have been great for a back sleeper (preferred I’m told). We had a Stearns & Foster that was just too firm, bad decision on our part. We have a Savvy Rest natural latex now and it’s barely acceptable, but despite two tries I don’t think we got the firmness right. We have to be cool to sleep, otherwise we’d try a Temper Pedic, have heard they’re warm/hot.

Mattresses is one purchase we’ve yet to get right, and don’t know how to make better buying decisions. Laying on one in a store for 5-10 minutes hasn’t been a reliable predictor of a full nights sleep 365 days a year. And right or wrong we’ve read and heard horror stories about the 90 day return policies many offer, it can be done but it’s usually a big hassle? We’d pay dearly for a great mattress, but we haven’t figured out what fits us best after decades trying (and failing).

The cruel irony is, I almost always sleep better in hotel beds, presumably cheaper and lower tech than the expensive mattresses at home...

Everyone has different requirements that change over the years. Like most folks I've had a variety of mattresses over the years from hand-me-downs, to Stearns an Foster, to using memory foam toppers, to Costco foam made with a few inches of memory foam on top. The last one is still being used after about 10 years. However, after sleeping on the correct side I wasn't getting a comfortable sleep so I turned it over and slept on the regular foam side and sleep improved. Due to medical reasons and possibly age sleep is not as easy as in the past. In college I slept like the dead on a 4 inch thick cotton mattress on a steel frame. I slept on my stomach as the mattress sagged a good 6 inches in the middle. Go figure.

Cheers!

We love our Tempur-Pedics. DW had one before I met her. I liked it so much, I bought one for my place. When we finally bought a house together, we kept both Tempur-Pedics. We use one and keep the other in the spare bedroom. One of the reasons we don't travel for longer periods is that we miss our Tempur-Pedic!

We paid about $ 1K almost 15-20 yrs. ago. Honestly, they feel as wonderful today as when we first bought them. No obvious lumps, sags, or other issues. It's hard to believe, but they seem just as good as new, or someone we have adjusted to any, presumably small, changes.

We bought the one and only model available back then. Now their website has several levels of firmness, starting at about $ 2K for a queen size. We're definitely hanging on to our spare! I'd suggest somehow trying one at least overnight before buying since they are very different.

It takes a bit of time to get used to the memory foam style if you've only slept on spring mattresses, in part there is so little movement, no sense of "bounce". This is good, though, for turbulent sleeper or if your partner gets up a lot overnight.

The foam does tend to retain body heat, once it warms up, which can take a little while in the winter. We just run the A/C as needed regardless; no pinching pennies when it comes to sleep.

Sleep on the ground for a month. After that any mattress will be awesome!:D

Another vote for a natural latex mattress. Still love it after a couple of years. Can't recall the brand, though.

A lot of personal preference here, though. Some swear by their memory foam mattresses; I can't stand them. I laid on one in a local showroom for probably an hour over several visits, but it wasn't for me. An old coworker couldn't sleep without his on trips.
