This one was more work related:

"Wherever possible, define your purpose as the prevention of problems rather than the delivery of services."

I had an ever-increasing distaste for motivational aphorisms, but this saying caught my attention fairly early in my working career, and I held it close to my heart. I still haven't completely plumbed it, and I'm not even sure how far it applies to the FIRE'd life - but it still has my attention.
 
That's just another version of;

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
