From the article:
Quote:
In New York, Gov. David Patterson has proposed to raise the state tax from 11 cents to 24 cents per gallon of beer, prompting speculation that Anheuser-Busch would close its Lysander brewery as a result, The Post-Standard of Syracuse said.

Good for A-B on this one. I hope all the breweries leave Oregon, too. I'm sure other states would appreciate the tax revenue and the jobs they create.

Our dear Gov is clearly not thinking with the brain located in his skull.
It is tough enough to get companies to stay in NY...now this.

You can't really blame them. The states are just taking their cues from the federal government. Wreck the economy and bankrupt your state and your legislators will will allow you to double your state budget with magic money.

Brew your own. The ingredients are taxed at the lower food rates here in IL. No alc tax on home brew for your own consumption.

I've been meaning to learn homebrewing. A guy I go to church with does some of it, so maybe I'll tag along and help him on his next batch so I can learn it.

Mom left a huge container of cherries in the Sub Zero too long. She didn't realize they had fermented and served them at teatime to um, a teetotaler who politely asked for more.

That reminds me of a boss I used to have years ago, back when I was in California, who brought a rum cake she made to work. At one of her staff meetings, a lot of her team ate some of it -- and she used a LOT of rum. Several of the folks who had a piece didn't drink, including one young Asian woman who weighed about 90 pounds dripping wet. It was interesting watching her get all buzzed and chatty and goofy for a couple hours...

When I was an instructor in the military I had a little graduation party at the house for some of my students. Unknown to DW, someone spiked the punch. When they all left, she saved what was left.
The following morning she filled the little thermos in our 1st grader's Holly Hobby lunch box with punch and sent her off to school. When I got home DW remarked DD must be coming down with something since her teacher said she'd slept in her desk all afternoon.
Later that evening I opened the refrigerator, saw the leftover punch and said, "That punch was pretty good, especially after Lt. XXXXXX poured in all that vodka." The look on DW's face was priceless...

It's a snap to do. I've got 5 gallons of porter fermenting in my garage right now.

One of the best porters I've ever had was at a pizza joint and brewpub in Anchorage, at a place called the Moose's Tooth.
Just thinking about it makes me want to book a flight to Alaska.
