NFL: 2021 Season

Starting the 2020 season thread about a year about with the news of Tom Brady going to Tampa Bay.

Well, now the NFL earthquake headline is that Aaron Rodgers wants out of GB.

What the heck? Is all I can say.

I would say AR is just playing games because he can, he has the leverage. I beleive he isn't going anywhere but to the bank with more money. He always appeared to me as a selfish player and pats himself on the back often. JM2¢

17 Game Regular Season

It will be interesting to see how this new "enhanced" 17-game season will play out. Also, will there be gripes about former 16-game "regular season" records being broken with this added game.

If AR retires under contract can he go play with another team this year?

I think only with permission from the team the he was under contract with.

I believe (someone please jump in if I'm mistaken) that was the case with The Gronk going to Tampa Bay. He had retired but was under the contract with the Patriots but the Patriots said go ahead and play for Tampa.

Rumors are that Rodgers is not a great locker room teammate, but obviously a great talent. I read today that Green Bay GM says they are not trading him, but they always say that. San Fran GM, Lynch, says they called and inquired and the Pack wouldn’t listen to them. Interesting drama for the cheeseheads.

Thanks! I tried to find a ruling on that scenario but couldn't.

Looking up the Gronk's situation. Actually ended that he informed the Patriots that he wanted to play for the Bucs. So, the Pats traded him and a seventh round pick to the Bucs for a 4th round pick.

Still, a player can't just say he's retired, then pick any team without the team under contract's blessing.

Playing and living in Green Bay isn't exactly living the NYC, Miami or LA lifestyle. Rodgers actually did well in his part time gig - Jeopardy host.

Remember that scene from the movie "Hoosiers" in that town meeting where the superstar player Jimmy Chitwood says "I Play, Coach Stays... He goes.. I go".

Looks like the Aaron Rodgers situation is "GM stays, I go".

Quote:
If the Green Bay Packers want to keep Aaron Rodgers, it will reportedly require them to get rid of their general manager.
Per Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Rodgers is "adamant" he won't return to the Packers as long as Brian Gutekunst remains their general manager.
...

Robinson noted the "fracture points" between Rodgers and Gutekunst stem largely from the latter's decision to trade up in the 2020 NFL draft to select Jordan Love without informing Rodgers.
A source told Robinson that Rodgers felt Gutekunst's plan was to move on from him after the 2020 season in order to make Love the Packers quarterback.

I thought so too, especially when on his first episode a final Jeopardy response was.... Who Wanted to Kick That Field Goal? I loved his response
"That is a great question, should be correct, but unfortunately for this game today it's incorrect,"

The big thing I heard so far this year was that Drew Brees was going into sports casting and would replacing some big time announcer.... When I first heard it I hope high hopes he would be replacing Joe Buck on FOX. Since then I've learned his deal was with NBC. So I guess Joe will still be on the air.

Normally, a star player having the ability to get a coach or GM fired is an NBA thing.

If the Packers' GM was a noobie, I could see a firing to keep peace. But the GM has about 24 years of experience with the team.

The only two teams I plan on watching this season play tonight.... I want both to win, but I suspect TB will take it easily. But as they say, on any given Sunday "Thursday", so you never know.

I see Houston is ranked appropriately...

I see the Texans are starting where they belong. My friends with season tickets and owned seats can't sell either (paid for seats and tickets to use them) and tried several times this year. It's going to be a "suck type" year here in Houston.

The real betting is on who (which players) is going to make the H.E.B. grocery commercials this year?

Shouldn't be hard to find someone from the Houston Texans to represent/sell HEB rump roast. No acting required....

Folks outside of Texas may not get the the full "Butt of that Joke"(s).

Chief's. Up north since 2005 and finally switched fully. Was Chief's and the Saint's but won't be moving back to New Orleans. Visit yes but but becoming a KC guy pretty much.

Heh heh heh - and trying to not watch as much football as prior decades. Like a few good stocks. Not cold turkey - just less.
