Just once I'd like to hear this exchange on a TV pre-game show between a play by play guy and the analyst:

Dave: "So, Dan, what are the keys to victory for the Broncos tonight?"

Dan: "Scoring more points than the Seahawks."

Yep, probably sacrilege, but I was rooting for either Manning or Brady for the ring. Couple of future HOFers nearing the end. Expect we'll be seeing a lot of the Hawks and 49ers in the future, though.

Thinking you are good is only part of what makes champions. The other part is backing it up on the field.

Agreed but both of these teams got that going. Seahawks are coming in with way more confidence and obviously much more passionate backing from their fans and city.

I suspect many folks in Denver would not treat this as a given. In reality I think the so-called "12th Man" (A Texas A&M ripoff) gives itself more credit than it deserves.

There are so many variables to consider.

Such as....

- The sentimental favorite probably is Manning, thus the 12th Man for the big game probably favors the Broncos

- Usually, great defense and great running wins. Seahawks have great defense and Lynch is a beast.

- This isn't Manning's first rodeo in the Superbowl (he helped beat the Bears -- another great defense, but lost to the Saints). Wilson's first rodeo.

In other words, too many x's and o's. I'm ready for the kickoff.

First of all, the Seahawks don't "ripoff" Texas A&M, as you would have known if you had done your homework.

Secondly, the Seattle Seahawk 12s will be well-represented in tomorrow's Super Bowl--perhaps some 2 to 1. For example, see here.

Go Hawks!

2:1 I don't think so

I am here on the strip from Seattle and I am sure it's close to 10 hawks to 1 pony.
I think Manning will fumble 3 xs and 1 IT. Seattle is reckless and loose.
Should be an amazing game.

I'm just ready for it to be over with. I've never really understood how people get so attached to teams. I'll probably watch the first quarter.....gives me something to watch while I am on the treadmill. Then maybe watch the last quarter.

"Ripoff" in this context simply means not original, not that they are "stealing" the use of an established, trademarked term -- much in the same way that Hollywood sequels and remakes are "ripoffs" of the original. So you may stand down now....

I don't associate ripoff with licensing its use. But then I am a 'Hawks fan. Not original for sure. But pretty creative to see something you like and arrange to license it. And they will have to be creative to win.

My high school trig and slide rule (yes, I said 'slide rule") teacher was a member of the A&M football team in the 1922 game that created the 12th man tradition. He was understandably very proud of that fact.

Coincidentally, a classmate who sat next to me in his class went on to graduate from A&M and get his law degree. (Yes, the poor guy is on the receiving in of both Aggie and lawyer jokes - not that I've ever given him a hard time about it. ) He was one of the attorneys who represented A&M in the negotiations that led to the license allowing the Seahawks to use "The 12th Man" trademark owned by A&M.

Disclosure: I am neither an Aggie nor a Seahawks fan.

I viewed this as the Seahawk's copy catting A&M and I thought that was the context of Ziggy's use of the term ripoff.

I am kind of indifferent as to either team winning, but sentimentally have to side for Manning.

Wrong.
The fact is that Seattle area has been going crazy this year over the Seahawks more than I have ever seen before. In Denver what like 200 show up to send off there team. Seattle lined the streets with thousands for miles. No joke. The passion around is nuts around here.

What was the decibel meter reading at Denver's Stadium? Not even close to record breaking like KC and Seattle.

Another way to see the difference is that Denver has a lot more history being in the Superbowl. Seahawks have never won it but got a taste for it in 2005. It just another big game in the Superbowl for Denver fans who have been there done that. But it's potentially the first Superbowl win EVER for Seattle fans. Many of which have weathered horrible teams for most of their history.

And no I'm not even a fan of the Seahawks...just my observation.

Not everyone equates fan interest and "getting into" a game with crowd noise. (I guess folks who are require supplemental oxygen and have respiratory illnesses can't be "into" their team since they can't make a lot of noise.) And stadium acoustics have a fair amount to do with noise levels in a stadium. It's a lot easier to be the "loudest" when you specifically designed your stadium to amplify crowd noise.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I do think many Seahawks fans are getting a little too full of themselves and acting like they are the best fans ever, and that no fans before them have ever "influenced" the outcome of home games like they do. And frankly I think crowd noise over (say) 100-110 decibels should be a penalty on the home team. Not just as unsportsmanlike conduct, but because it's actually dangerous for the hearing of the fans attending the game. My wife is hard of hearing -- and may become more or less fully deaf in the future -- in part because of past exposure to loud noises so I'm a little sensitive to that.

All the sports writers here in Chicago are picking Broncos. That is a good sign there will be a celebration in Seattle tonight.

I'm sitting around watching prior SB highlights on Comcast, many of which I recall (how about those 49ers?). It's actually nice not caring which team wins!
