My all time favorite:

I'd rather be a Master in hell than a servant in heaven.

Read it in a sea story type novel long ago. Good line IMHO. Master refer to being a captain of a ship, from the sail ship days.

Good one. Makes you think, when applied to ER. It's originally from Paradise Lost, with the wording changed slightly.

Thanks. I'll need to find and read again. Must be 40+ years when I read it.

OTOH it may be some other book. IIRC it was said by the captain of a run down rusted out ship, IIRC the Captains name was Wolf Larsen.

Edit 2. Did a quick internet search. The likely book was The Sea Wolf by Jack London.
