Whale of some sort?

Yes, it was a spy-hopping whale. That's his nose. Either a California Grey or a Humpback. It gets deep very close to the shore, and they feed there.

I like this one:

This one of Scarborough came to mind from another thread where idyllic places to live were being discussed and the OP mentioned it - just so happens that DW and I were back there visiting in 2007 when I took the photo. The streets are full of lovely old cafes and restaurants and they have an excellent bus service that keeps the town center traffic to a minimum (the streets are very narrow). It also has a castle overlooking the other bay and it is quite a strenuous climb up the cliffs to the castle and/or to the big old Victorian style houses.

we are putting together a site now where eventually my wife and i intend to take our passion for photography to the next level and intend to start a little pre-retirement business shooting local car shows and businesses

A friend of mine is a professional photographer. I got to know her because she also volunteers at the local animal shelter. Her volunteer work includes taking pictures of the shelter animals for their website and, I gotta tell you, a good picture really increases their chance of adoption.

She also does pet photography and makes pretty good money at it. I believe she charges $150 per session. For an extra charge, her customers may get copies of the pictures on t-shirts and coffee mugs. Pet portraits can be promoted at local animal shows and by donating sessions to fund raisers for shelters and rescue groups. Naturally, much of her business comes from referrals.

thats exactley what we will offer, the mugs, the shirts, the key rings with your car pics etc..... my wife and i just enjoy photography and whether we make money or not is secondary...we figure car buffs are our best audiance as they loooooove their cars...we hope to give it a try over the next month as we get everything set up on line....

Alan, do these make you homesick?

Awesome - at the coffee shopt this morning DW and I were talking with friends and telling them that we are already counting down the days to our 6 week vacation in England in July, 2010 !!

Last time we went to Scarborough we stopped on the way at the foot of the "white horse" and hiked up to the top.

And for good measure I've thrown in a couple of photos of my home town, Seaham Harbour, where we always stay with my family for a few days when over in England (the church is over 600 years old).
