Coleman Extreme (72-hour) coolers rock! I use them to ship samples that have to be held at just above freezing for multiple days...

Agree, slightly less quality than Yeti for a much better price.

I think I would just go buy one of the small refrigerators for around $100 and use it for the days/weeks until the parts and repair are complete. You could then sell it if you have no need for it and recover part of the money spent. Much easier than playing at camping during the repair time.

We've had a plastic one for a couple decades. Works great.

Or keep it for a beer fridge. I agree, that would be much better than dealing with an ice chest.

Walked through Dick's Sporting Goods the other day and couldn't believe what they are asking for the Yeti's. Over $400 for a cooler about the same size as my $50 Coleman. A lot to be paying just to keep the ice from melting a little longer.

How would he do this if the broken parts are causing a broken freezer?

This is my suggestion. Way better than the blue ice-packs since you just drink the cool water and no need to deal with the packs if you don't have a way to refreeze them.
Also agree get the best insulated cooler. A drain is good idea to get rid of melted ice if using loose ice.

Buying a small refrigerator was the initial plan. However, then there was the problem of getting it home, finding a place for it, and then what to do with it after the refrigerator was fixed. Too big and awkward for the garage and too much of a hassle (for us) to sell. If we had bought it, we had talked about just giving it to the gardener. But, then there's the problem of starting the process all over again if/when the refrigerator went down again. For us, an ice chest seemed to have made the most sense.
