Today is the day construction starts! As I have mentioned in another post we are having a 32'x56'x12' pole barn added to our property. We excavated and had the gravel base put in a few months ago awaiting the pole barn builder in the spring.

At about 6:45 this morning they arrived and quickly set about digging the post holes. Now in less than 3 hours they have the posts set and are starting the framing. Boy they work fast!

Very exciting for you! Keep snapping pictures and drinking coffee. It's great to have people working for you like that.

Very nice!! That will be space well used, please keep us posted on the project.

We have rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday so they are going to try and get the framing done and roof on by tomorrow and then return on Friday to pour floor before they side the building add the metal ceiling and insulate.

11:30 lunch break time

Interesting, they are putting the trusses up from the end maybe and sliding them over?

I think on ours they raised each truss at its set of poles and then added the girts.

Are you planning a concrete floor or sticking with the gravel?

We are doing a concrete floor and they are shooting to pour on Friday after the rain which is scheduled for Wed. & Thursday.

The pole barn they are doing across the street they started trusses on one end and worked their way across.

They use a bobcat with a long arm pole to which is attached a "J" hook to hoist up to the top of the wall.

You are going to love that concrete floor. We had a 30x40 pole barn built last year and the concrete guy was amazing...it looks like a skating ring inside, perfectly smooth and level. After it had set, he even cut cross lines in it to prevent cracks spreading.

SO much nicer to change the oil on our motorcycles and snowmobiles while not wallowing around in the dirt/mud!

Awesome build wmc! Great progress so far. Can’t wait to see the rest of the build.

A friend is building a 72’x48’ pole barn. We staked it out a week ago. Construction is supposed to start any day.

I like construction projects like this! Keep us posted!

Day 1 finished! After lunch they decided to switch gears and after setting trusses they set the finish grade for the floor instead of starting the roofing.

They decided to pour the floor tomorrow instead of waiting until after the rain on Wed. & Thurs. They will then continue on with the build on Friday.

We had them add the 2"x2' perimeter insulation board to lessen heat loss through the slab in winter.

You can see 1 of our grandsons running inside as a size reference!

For those wondering about the floor, they will lay the wire mesh for the floor in the morning before the concrete arrives.

IMHO It is much more enjoyable watching others do this work then if I did it now that we are in our late 60's. I just finished doing a tile backsplash in our kitchen over the weekend and that was tiring enough.

We had the counters replaced first and then I did the backsplash - attached before, during and after pics

It is amazing how much progress those construction crews can get done in one day. I have seen a few go up through the years and in 3 days they are done and moved on. Most here pour cement after structure is up and done.

Very nice, keep us posted.

The neighbor who is having the same company do his pole barn across the street had to have a pumper truck since he didn't have a drive ready to the building pad. They had their concrete floor poured today and the pumper truck operator had another job in the area but not until 11:30 so he volunteered the use of the pumper truck to my crew which made it quicker for them to do the pour. Normally if the pumper truck is required it is an $800 upcharge.

Floor took 3 truckloads of concrete and it was all poured in just over an hour!

It makes me so sad to see how fast a real construction crew works compared to me and my wife. We would still be setting the posts. It was the same way with our pole barn...I just could not believe how fast they were able to do it.

That is looking great...my little 30x40 barn is very jealous of your quite larger barn. Size matters.

We will lose Wednesday and Thursday to rain which is why they poured it today instead of putting the metal roof on and setting the windows. It should be all systems go on Friday and then first part of next week to wrap it up.

To work on these crews you have to be a jack of all trades as they do all the steps start to finish. I am totally amazed at how they have it down to a science.

I agree with how it compares to doing it yourself, I told my DW on day one that they got more accomplished than we would have gotten done in a couple of months.

Called my homeowners insurance company to see what adding this building would do to my premium. I was told that we have up to $63,000 in accessory dwelling coverage with our replacement cost policy so this will not affect the premium as it is well below that and we don't have any other "accessory dwellings" on the property.

Day 2 done. They had this ride on power troweling machine that really made a smooth almost polished surface. Still needs to be relief cut for potential crack control.

Now the question is what is going in the barn (cars, chickens, goats, woodwork shop, etc)?

Now the question is what is going in the barn (cars, chickens, goats, woodwork shop, etc)?

yes

It is a well known corollary to the second law of thermodynamics:

The mass in a pole barn will expand to fully fill all enclosed area.
