Question about a novel book

hello friends i try to locate a book i spotted some years ago. The novel is about someone who plans for years his early retirement and he buys a farm or house somewhere in Africa but a family disease like cancer appears and he spends all his savings to hospitals.
Does anybody remembers abything? thanks

The Power of One which takes place in S. Africa is a great read. It is a very different story than you described. Sorry, the Africa part made me recall this book.
