Scheduling Dr. Appointment...The Worst of Both Worlds

I went ahead and tried to schedule two annual check ups. First, with my family doctor. Second, with my eye doctor.

#1 - The old fashioned way with family doctor. I called and had to wait about 20 minutes before finally getting a hold with someone and made the appointment.

#2 - The "new" way with eye doctor. My eye doctor has a new system so got my email last year. I get this reminder email to schedule an appointment so I click the link thinking I'll book the appointment this way. Instead I get a page that shows...something like.."Yep..we'll get a hold of you to schedule an appointment". So I guess the "new" more replaces the old reminder postcards then anything else.

Just wait a bit, it might get worse.

My dentist sends me reminders (as text messages on my smart phone) about an upcoming appointment approximately a week before the appointment, then a few days before, then the day before. Trouble is, when I go to respond, however they have it set up at their office, my phone texts (responding "yes" as I was requested to do) can't get back to the phone system in their office that must've sent out the text message.
Annoying, to say the least.

My dentist's office sends out the patient satisfaction survey and the next appointment before the local anesthesia has worn off!

Thought I would try to come into the modern age and schedule my driver license renewal exam appt online. The site gives you the earliest available appt......date/time. If you are so ungrateful as to reject that choice, the site asks you to pick a date or a time or a combo. If your choice is unavailable, it simply rejects it without giving you a hint as to which direction is better. After numerous such rejections I finally gave up and begged it to give me the earliest possible date/time. I can still hear it laughing.

My dentist leaves a message reminding of an appointment in three days. If you don't call back to confirm the reminder, he cancels the appointment on you.

That's a bit tough!

My dentist's office sends a text, an email and a voice mail about two days before the appointment. The email clearly states that no shows will be billed. One time I had a horrible cold and called to reschedule on the day of the appointment. They said "no problem" and didn't bill me.

I called my eye doctor at 10:45 am yesterday to set an appointment for an eye exam and was offered one at 12:30 the same day. In and out by 1:00 pm with my new contacts for six months. Total cost $89.00. Hard to beat.
