I was in the IT security business managing a DOD network for 10 years. We always had an offsite backup in two geographically separate locations.

For my personal information I bought two 500 GB portable hard drives with one of them always being in a safe deposit box. Once a month I stop by and swap them out after updating one of them. I DO NOT trust online backups. I'm more concerned about natural disasters and my data. It's not how your information will be hacked, but when it will be hacked.

I fully understand, and that's an excellent option. I'm not trying to sell anyone on the on-line option, but I did promise to provide feedback on my experience with it.

I posted about it briefly. Basically they broke the kitchen window over my
sink, entered, and completely ransacked my house, while I was at the gym, leaving all the doors wide open when they left. They took nothing but $35 cash.
Police said it was a smash and grab and only took a minute but it was unnerving.

I understand - thanks for posting your experience. I'll probably go the online route someday when I shed my security fears
