Terminator IV: Fall of the Machine

HouseMaster Home Inspection circulates average life spans among its house inspectors. Here are their stats:

Gargage disposal, 5 to 10 years
Stove, 15 to 25 years
Dishwasher, 7 to 12 years
Refrigerator, 10 to 18 years
Faucets, 8 to 12 years
Washer, 10 to 12 years
Dryer, 10 to 15 years
Water heater, 8 to 15 years
Plumbing, 30 to 60 years
Septic Systerm, 20 plus years
Paint, 4 to 7 years
Stucco siding, 40 plus years
Asphalt shingle roof, 15 to 18 years.

IMO, the Governator will last one term

Those guys haven't incorporated our appliance numbers.

I wonder if this is a situation where the median is less skewed than the average, and I wonder if they're talking mechanical lifetime or decor.

Because we're getting a lot more out of our appliances than the inspectors...

Nords--
I found 'the list' on our fridge under another little note last nite. I remember keeping it because it didn't quite jibe with my experience either. This info was gathered a survey of member inspectors. You now have all the info I have.

And now I have concrete goals to achieve!

Off to Waikiki to look at a $165 refrigerator from craigslist. Sure hope they don't live in a high-rise...

Re: Terminator IV: Fall of the Machine

A not inconsistant list is on http://repair2000.com/lifespan.html.

Refers are shown at 10 to 14 years. Our last one gave up the ghost at only about 10 years and my DHs repair man friend said not work fixing.
