Thread Subscription question

I just joined and downloaded the app. I would like to know when someone responds to anything I wrote but I notice the app lists a number next to it similar to new email. Is there a way not to receive an email every time someone responds but still have the app notice come up as new responses ? I hate clutter In my email and all it tells you is that someone responded anyway
Thanks

If you click on the "user cp" link you will see a column titled "your control panel". Look for "settings and options", then "edit options". In "default thread subscription mode" you can choose if you want to be notified and how often.
