At this point, no information from Time Warner as to the cause of the outage.
7:30 AM ET Wednesday

Suspicions of cyber attack.

Coincidental with last day of comment on Time Warner/Comcast Cable merger.

Implications for future with Internet under one roof?

Imagine a long period without the internet!

Stay tuned.

I have TW internet via a third party wireless DSL provider. It was down when I first checked around 6AM Eastern, but came online about an hour later.

Could be the first stage of an asteroid collision.

You may not be too far off...

Hope Amazon doesn't lose my order...

Tweet from Time Warner tech.

NEW YORK (AP) — Time Warner Cable says a problem that occurred during routine maintenance caused a nationwide outage of its Internet service for hours on Wednesday morning.

The company says it is still investigating the cause of the problem, which occurred with its Internet backbone, the paths that local or regional networks connect to in order to carry data long distances.

The company says the problem affected all of its markets and started at 4:30 a.m. and was largely restored by 6 a.m., and updates continue to bring all customers back online. The outage sparked widespread complaints on social networks.

Time Warner Cable, which is in the process of being bought by rival Comcast Corp. for $45 billion, has about 11.4 million high-speed data subscribers in 29 states nationwide.

On Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission said Time Warner Cable, based in New York, would pay $1.1 million to resolve outage reporting violations.

lessee... $1.1 million divided by 11 million customers = ?

I'm concerned about the OP. It sounds like the problem was only from 4:30-6am eastern time. The OP lives in central time zone(I think) so it wouldn't affect him unless he was up before 5am. Why would a retired person be up so early:confused:

Wait until you're older, then you'll understand...

If you mean getting up to go to the bathroom. I understand that. I got up twice last night but went back to bed until the sun was up. I went to bed at just after 9pm and got up at just after 6:30.

This is interesting because Charter Communications had nation wide outages this past Saturday. They never did say what the cause was, but because many could use Google DNS servers, it appeared their DNS servers may have been hit. One cannot help but wonder about the coincidence on two major companies having nationwide outages.

I often think our banking and electrical grids are subject to the same thing......

No, I mean some of us [-]old farts[/-] wake up far to damn early - even though we may prefer to sleep late. Can't do it.

Yeah, that...

But my cable and internet were up when I got up at 6am CDT.

Maybe he hadn't gone to bed yet...out clubbing (?) and came back home to check his email before a shower and hitting the sack.

Seriously, I know of at least one old fart who doesn't get to bed until 4AM and sleeps till 2PM. Got into some weird sleep lifestyle and can't do the 9-5 (PM to AM) thing.

Hey!! I"m still doing "9 to 5"!!! It's just at night now. In my bed.

Time Warner Cable... No Internet access...

I don't see the reason for the fuss. That's the normal state of service, isn't it?
