Get ready for the twice-daily calls because some of the people to whom you are passing your duties didn't pay attention to your verbal / written / pictures-on-the-board documentation.  The first week will be kind of fun in that you like the fact they still need you.  The second week you realize you're not getting paid to do that kind of work any more and you tell them to read the documentation.  The third week you'll let the answering machine pick up and return the call several days later.

Thanks for all of the comments. Today I decided to attend the production meeting for the last time and say a few words of thanks there. Tomorrow I might not be there that long.
Today at 3:00 PM we had a retirement party with cokes, cake, ice cream, brownies, cookies and fruit. It was standing room only and others told me that they could not come in because of the crowd. Some waited outside to just come in for the food and a hand shake when they could get in.
The power point presentation went over well. It was on the lighter side with a twist of humor. I got a lot of good comments on it later.
I enjoyed it because it sorta provided "closure" for me. My wife attended and she felt the same way. On the way home we felt entirely different about the emotional side of ending my w**king years.
Tomorrow I go in early for a Team breakfast and make the rounds shaking hands until I am ready to leave.
Then I'll be "having dessert".

Well, that's it. I'm done. Today was just as I imagined it. Went in early for breakfast, had a scheduled early meeting where we reminisced about old times and BSed for a while. Then spent the morning shaking hands and carrying the last of my junk out to my truck. I took a few pictures this morning and then stopped outside the gate and took a few pics of the site and then one more out the windshield as I drove off for the last time.
It feels good right now.
I spent the rest of the day relaxing and now tonight we go out for a nice dinner at an upscale restaurant with my Ex-manager and some other employees who all have to return to work tomorrow by the way.
But I don't have to......

Don't be surprised if you have lots of mixed feelings for a few days or more -- I did. Then again, I rather liked my job. Enjoy the rest of your life.

I know you're right Rich. As you can tell from prior posts, I liked my job as well. I know to expect that so I am prepared to look past it and focus on the future.

Don't forget to sleep in tomorrow! I think I awakened an hour EARLY on my first full day of retirement. So dumb, but I just couldn't wait to experience it.
Anyway, it is time for the big ear-to-ear smile  and the happy dance! Thanks for posting your wonderful news.

Thanks for the supporting comments by everyone. Yes I did sleep in today and had a leisurely day just putsing around and doing small repairs and a little shopping for stuff to do more small repairs.
We went out to a high-end restaurant last night and I ate too much but figured since there was no budget and you only retire once, what the heck. Finished the leftovers tonight. Walked my usual 45 minutes listening to good blues music and enjoyed every step. It was a good day.

The first few days after my retirement I woke up, laughed, and went back to sleep. I really liked bad weather days knowing I didn't have to get out in it. Five years later I still have the silly grin!
