USA Metro Area Population Change 2000-2007

Thought it was interesting and an easy to read format, thought others might too. Not surprising the Midwest and Northeast have lost the most though the big cities (Chicago, NYC, DC and others) have grown - just as some of the books I've read recently have noted.

I was kind of surprised to see the growth in recently hard-hit areas (like Florida), but then I noticed that the legend indicates that the map covers only up to 2007 (basically pre-recession). But still interesting, thanks for posting!

Wonder what the 07-11 one looks like. As steelyman noted, many of the large blue bubbles of population growth were the places that had the biggest real estate bubbles (Southern California, Vegas, Florida, Phoenix).

Not as obvious as the above map, but this site has maps showing changes through 2010:
