Video - how much to be comfortable?

A recent USA TODAY/Gallup Poll found that a majority of Americans think they need to make more money to live comfortably. Tammy Strobel, a "downsizer," has found happiness in living on only $25,000 a year.

I cut my income in half when I FIREd. I also no longer had to pay NYS income taxes or FICA or Medicare payroll deductions.
So I essentially got to keep a higher percentage of my "income".
I double and tripled checked the figures:
(salary + survivor pension - Fed taxes) vs.
(fixed annuity + survivor pension - Fed taxes).

Sounds screwy, but there it is. My downsizing paid off immensely. I'm still chuckling.
