Money, and my fairly conservative WR, means the potential to one day have enough of it to buy myself a gasoline-powered turtleneck sweater, or a fur-lined sink.

I might even purchase some frivolous things too

The means to spend it on wine, women, and song. The rest you can waste.

Choices.

I remember first thinking this when I was in college and had no money and few choices. I thought of it very recently when thinking about a difficult situation I'm dealing with and realized that having money gives me many choices to address the situation.

"Independence," which I suppose is a particular kind of freedom.

I think it means you can tell your boss what you are thinking and believing.

Also, you can buy someone else's integrity with money, like from cops in 3rd world countries.

I'm not sure it's their integrity you're buying, NW-Bound, but I get your point

EDIT - on second thought, you're actually paying them to casually misplace their integrity for a brief while

Debt. After all, money is created when a bank or the Federal Reserve lends money, so it is born as debt and used as a store of value where interest has to be paid to the lender. Become the lender and you're on your way to financial freedom!

On rethinking, I now see that you are correct. When I "buy" someone's integrity, he loses it, but I do not gain it. It is simply lost.

Integrity is like "inverse entropy". It can be destroyed, but not created.
