Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
Forbidden Planet. (I was crazy about this one in high school, even talked my English teacher into showing it as a tie-in to Shakespeare.)
The Day the Earth Stood Still.
2001.
Blade Runner.
The first Terminator.
Either Alien or Aliens.
Fifth Element.
Don't like the recent trend towards over-reliance on CG.

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
The first Star Wars - but I also like most of the others named so far plus Dune, and a lot of the old badly made black and whites.
Godzilla was a hoot. Ghostbusters may be stretching the genre a bit - but cute.

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
I don't remember the SF movie "Grumpy".
Soft spot for the first Star Wars movie, too.
How about a list of the worst ones? The ones made in the '50's with cardboard boxes and aluminum foil. Bob Heinlein had a story turned into one of these. I bet he retched all the way to the bank. Starship Troopers (and, what, two sequels?) didn't fare much better.

Plan 9 from Outer Space. I actually own a copy. I absolutely love campy 50's sci-fi movies

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
Most of the work by the very troubled Philip K. Dick
I found out much later that he lived in my neighborhood in Santa Venetia, Ca - though I had no idea or appreciation of who he was at the time - would have been pretty interesting I'm sure to hear what he had to say over a cocktail at a neighborhood party....

I am with UnkaMike. I liked all of the others mentioned. Never saw Logan's Run, though.

Ed, Flesh Gordon? I think you grabbed the adult version by mistake.
My favorites right now are Contact and Gattaca.

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
Just finished DVD 3 of 4 of Firefly, from the TV series. I expect the Movie Serenity will be on my short list.
My wife votes for Contact, I'm not sure that I think of that as SF. I liked the Matrix series. Blade runner.

2001: A Space Odyssey
it grows on you with the 2nd and 3rd viewing
Then there's all those Star Trek movies ... in a class all by themselves

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
Gattica, yes, a very good movie.
Obviously several of the Star Wars movies. I'm going to bring down the rath of the purists here and say the last movie, "Revenge of the Sith" actually knocked "Empire Strikes Back" out of the top spot in my mind. Totally made up for the previous two.
Aliens -"What are we gonna do now, man! Game over! We're screwed!"
The Abyss, Terminator 2, the first Matrix movie.....
...and of course, Soylent Green (it's people! )

Re: What's your favorite Sci-Fi Movie?
I don't think anything can touch Blade Runner (but I liked all of Philip K. Dick's stories).
A few nobody has mentioned: Brazil (I still hum the tune all the time), The Manchurian Candidate, the original Planet of the Apes (take your stinking paws off me, you damn dirty ape!), and one of my favorite movies as a kid: Westworld.

Westworld was great.
Just remembered another old favorite: Andromeda Strain.
