Where Are They Now?

It does leave one wondering what could have happened when a member stops posting. I always hope it is for good reasons rather than bad.

A couple members i recall that i enjoyed reading was the pizza guy that was working on ER despite living in high COL area and his job was pizza delivery. That showed e that anyone can work on making ER a reality. The other is the guy low-cost retiree in CO. He lived in Canon City and was making it on a lower amount than most of us would be comfortable with. Also inspiring since it showed you don't have to be a multi-millionaire or living the Mr Money Moustache van by the river lifestyles. There is a range that can work for many ER plans.

BCG was fun with his comments on things. I am far from a big city dweller, in fact I prefer the country. So his perspective being a NYC dweller were interesting to me.

What about Papadad111? When I joined in 2014 he was posting a lot, then a few years after, and then just vanished. How about Sea kayaker?

But not if shot by a jealous lover? Seems like an oversight.

I mentioned this at our recent SWFL meet-up and harley mentioned that he death letter includes instructions to notify the e-r.org community of his demise in the even he gets hit by a beer truck.

LOL! I think it would be the one who is stamping his feet while mooning the other two:LOL: The squabbling chickens definitely remind me of some of those city-data female posters.

To me, the men on that (retirement) forum mostly come off as Mr. Reasonable but Pompous. (I will leave my opinion of the other city-data forums to the reader's imagination).

I also find it amusing that some of the [-]chicke[/-] - er, posters on that forum seem to think I am a man. I don't self-identify by gender there, as I do here.

Thinking about such forums, and wondering what the male equivalent of such posters would be... The lesser prairie chicken comes to mind:

There was a Fedex driver on here for a while saving for ER. Had good posts.

One of the other forums I am on has an "In Memorium" sticky for posters who have passed away. I've always thought it was a good idea.

In other good news, I have heard from Cuppajoe, who is doing fine, and still reads the forum posts.

Last I heard, CFB was dealing with health problems. Martha's keeping busy with her life. REWahoo, any updates on either of them?

Thanks for the info. on CFB and Martha, Nords. I miss both of them also. I remember Martha getting ready to do a lot of traveling across the country after she retired (in an RV, as I recall). Back in the good old days when I joined the forum (2005), CFB was a very prolific poster (he actually had a different forum name before CFB that I can't recall right now). Always seemed like a very smart and interesting guy, I hope his health problems are not too serious. If you talk to either or both of these folks, let them know that some of us RE.org old-timers remember them well, and would love to see an update from them on how they are doing, etc..

I miss MPaquette.

He's the reason I found this forum - we had actually w*rked together pre FIRE.

This discussion is sorta creepy. Anyone else wondering what people would say about you if you disappeared?

With regard to Danmar, it was my impression he was a bit exacerbated by what he perceived was a petty thread, and wrote something to the effect that he was going to take a hiatus. I'm not saying this is accurate, it was my impression. Maybe he'll come back eventually and tell us about his new smile.
Yes he was getting tired of what he perceived to be a few small-minded posters. (He did not want to apologize for enjoying his BMW M6 convertible!)

However he has no hard feelings and just thought a break was needed.

I don't know why Meadbh left. I could speculate but I do not think that would be fair to her.

Not creepy for me. I would be honored if someone here remembered me once I pass away.

I would be honored if someone remembered me while I'm still here.

The one who I often wonder about a number of years ago.... and I can't remember her name... is the young woman who discovered that her husband, who was managing their investments, had made some very aggressive but losing bets and had lost ~$500k and she had just found out about it. Does anyone remember her screen name? I recall PMing her about a year later to ask how things were going and I never received a response.

Unless you explicitly delete your PMs, they should still be there and you could get her screen name from that list.

Khan.

She moved to Florida from the Dayton, OH area and hasn't visited the forum this year.

I sometimes wonder what happened to freebird5825. She was active on the forum when I joined in 2015, and I remember her because she lived in CNY (where I grew up).

As a fellow CNYer I wondered too and contacted her.
It was well over a year ago, but I remember it as she said she was well and looking in now and then but tired of the same conversations being rehashed. Maybe after we finally calculate the perfect SS starting day and when the mortgage must be paid off she'll rejoin us.😂

I guess I was referring to leaving the forum, not this Earth. :flowers:

What other people think of me is none of my business! - Gary Oldman

OMG, THAT’s a keeper. Going into my personal Life’s Great Coping Principles Hall of Fame. Thanks. It’s icing that Gary Oldman said it.

This discussion brings up something I've done with a few friends who live far from me. On my suggestion we've provided each other with email addresses of a family member who would definitely know if our individual "situation" were to change.

Now, if I don't hear from one of them and they don't respond to repeated emails, I can write to the designated family member and ask, "Are they mad at me or worse?" Well, not in so many words.

Danmar's departure is news to me. Sorry to hear that he is away and hope for his eventual return. He and I seemed to share some sensibilities.

Khan.

She moved to Florida from the Dayton, OH area and hasn't visited the forum this year.

With a relatively new marriage, a new house, and Hurricane Irma, I suspect she's pretty busy. When I head up to Pine Island or Matlacha I keep my eyes out for her or her truck, but I haven't run into her. I know I would recognize her from her pictures. I was hoping she's show up at one of the SWFL meet ups, but no luck.

Actually I think a lot of the people who have left have just reached a point in their life where other things take up most of their time. Some go away mad (like me, previously), but others like Nords and Sarah and many others have seen it all now and have other things to keep them busy.

And speaking of the gone away, how about Dory36?

Edit: Oops, should have checked first. I missed the thread about when he updated Firecalc last year. Obviously still kicking.
