I have to admit - I don't want to get this virus and I have stopped going inside stores. I miss my international food stores where I could get all sorts of goodies (speciality pastas, uncommon spices, etc).

Does anyone have any good / trusted / reasonably priced online sources ? If you use amazon can you please recommend a particular vendor.

thanks !

Have you checked to see if Instacart can get any of these from local stores?

I have had good experiences with My Spice Sage and Spice Jungle for spices online.

This is the original Penzey's: https://www.thespicehouse.com/ and it comes without the political screeching. https://www.thespicehouse.com/pages/about-the-spice-house

Relatively new, they have a thing called a "flatpack," which is a few ounces of a spice and it ships for free. Easy way to experiment and to avoid a cupboard full of old spices that came in too-big quantities. No need to "put together an order" to make shipping charges worthwhile.

This is also my recommendation. We use to go to the store and we still do when we visit Milwaukee. But living much further away now, we order online. We just ordered and it is about 2.5 weeks so far. They apparently are crazy busy right now.

DW likes the flat pack and free shipping too. Me too :)

I'm a spice nut and have been ordering from Penzey's for over 20 years. If I recall correctly, Spice House is run by Bill Penzey's sister. They had a falling-out, and are now rivals. They both know their spices, and I couldn't care less about their politics, so I'd go with the one who offers the better deal.

We've also shopped at Savory Spice, which also has a nice online selection. We started visiting them when we lived in Colorado. https://www.savoryspiceshop.com/

.

Thanks for the link. I ignore CEO politics in general, because it's the products I'm after. After your post I found some stories on the interwebs about the two Penzy companies. Very interesting.

To be clear, I do too. Except I draw the line when the CEO uses his business email list as a soapbox. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/annals-of-gastronomy/ceo-who-called-trump-racist-penzeys-spice-mix Actually I don't even disagree with his general thesis, but IMO he's out of line pushing it on his customers. Worse, I have read that his bad behavior actually spiked the business. Reward bad behavior, you'll get more.

I was a penzeys customer for 20 years. No more. I just want to buy spices so shut up and take my money. Apparently that is too much to ask of bill penzey, so I am done. I sent a polit letter to that effect, but I am sure I might as well pissed in in the ocean.

I used to work around the corner from the Spice House in Milwaukee -- a quaint old storefront redolent with exotic smells, even from outside on the sidewalk. Across the street is the Usinger's sausage factory (and factory store) with the Wisconsin Cheese Mart up the block. The block is a foodie tourist attraction.

I like Pastamore out of Denver. It is a little pricey at $8 plus shipping for 12 oz but I like the texture and especially like the Habanero linguni and Green Chile fettucine. They also have flavors such as Artichoke Rosemary and Garlic Chive. The pasta is advertised as "all natural handmade" and they occasionally advertise 25% off.

Hey guys, it's a spice shopping thread. Can we leave possibly leave politics out of maybe this one? OS - not to pick on you, you were not the first to bring it up.

Very soon after I looked at Savory spice store I started seeing their adverts in my FB feed. To me that's funny. and interesting. and should have been expected.

Where is their pasta made. I didn't see it on the website.

Usinger is another must stop when in Milwaukee. It's good that it all packs easily. And wash it down with custard from Kopps.

Sorry but I don't know. Assume it is made in Colorado since that is where they began 16 years ago and talk about making pasta in their warehouse in a video. Their balsamic vinegars are imported from Italy.
