Whew! We are grandparents now.

First grandchild - a boy - this morning. Hard to describe.

Our DD and DSIL are tired but happy. They've been at the hospital since yesterday afternoon.

A lovely surprise: they announced the baby is named after DH (DH's first name is the baby's middle name.)

Feel free to share you own grandchild or grandparent story - or your advice to us...

Congratulations. My kids are probably a long way from giving me grandkids. But I hope to have the experience some day. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, I did not share too much in my own grandsons' lives due to my ex wife and PITA DIL.
However, my wife's younger son just had a daughter, and we are spoiling her LOL. I have been with her from the time she was born until now, where she just turned 3! We posted this picture on another site, and here are a couple of the comments:
A sweetie with a fun smile
A cute terror full of precious mischief

Congratulations to your DD and DSIL on the new little tax deduction!

Your DH must be tickled pink about the name - very nice tribute!

They will bring joy to your lives! We are lucky that our two live close enough that we see them often. The oldest started school this year so we don't see her as much now. The youngest we watch three days a week. 1483067737228.jpg

Congratulations! We have a 10yr old and 1 year old. They are such a blessing. And agree with Moemg--the spoiling is so much fun!

Congratulations! Welcome to the club. Our lives took on new meaning when grandchildren came along. Among the more memorable effects - our children suddenly realized they needed us once again and that there were, in fact, many things they could still learn from us. After years of thinking they knew it all, they now ask for advice and counsel on a regular basis.

One of the things I enjoy most about being a grandparent is when I can tell one of my kids "you were just like that" or "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, eh?". This is especially rewarding when one of them tries some technique to get the rebellious child to behave and I speak up, saying "that never worked with you".

One unexpected impact - the budget. I (foolishly) thought when the kids moved out that our yearly budget had stabilized for the better. Not so - grandchildren are a new category of spending.

I enjoy spending time with my grandkids. The two oldest are with us now. I was happy when they arrived and will be just as happy when they leave.

The best part of being a grandparent is when you say to their parents some version of "here, take him, he needs your attention"

Congrats to the OP!

I may never have grandchildren, so my precious grandniece will have to do. I see her quite often.

None of my 3 kids want to have kids but I have a stepson that wants a family one day. When I divorced my ex I decided that my kids would never have to worry about who to invite to big events, etc as we could both come and be nice to each other. WE have both since remarried and the 4 of us get along fine. We always sit together at weddings, etc. We have been to each others homes for dinner with the kids. Of course for this to work you need 2 willing parties. I think it is the best gift we gave our kids.

Congrats! And what an honor for your DH. We have four under six and my only advice is to love the baby like crazy and always remember new parents can perceive unmeant criticism in their parenting so pile the praise on them and support their decisions wholeheartedly (I'm sure you will!).
