Yet Another....RIP Al Jarreau

The singer who made Milwaukee famous.

I recall when he first hit the scene, but I didn't realize he was from Milwaukee.

As opposed to his 'smooth sound', his interpretation of Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" (written by his sax player, Paul Desmond) is what grabbed me -

I never saw this video before, the intro shows off what he could do with his instrument, crazy and cool:

I caught Mr. Jarreau once in concert, and all I can say is that he was one cool cat.

He had the mind of a top notch jazz musician, and his voice was an instrument.

George Duke played a big part in Al's career, and he too left us prematurely. He had to be an instrumental genius to keep up with Al Jarreau's mind.

I got familiar with him on Napster. What a loss! And so young. He had another 5-8 years.

he used to play at first avenue in mpls years before Prince made it famous.

He was definitely a staple of my college radio DJing years in the late 70s and early 80s. I still have many of his tunes on my mp3 player and listen to them during workouts. RIP.
