1040 line 4a & 4b
As in recent years I used H&R Block Deluxe. Process was straight forward, no surprises, and to my satisfaction the final figures matched those in my excel spreadsheet which I have used and refined over the years to track my tax liability.
This morning however while taking another look at my 1040 (which has been filed and accepted) I noticed something odd. Line 4a IRAs, pensions, and annuities shows 33,249 while line 4b Taxable amount shows 36,397. The amount on 4b is the correct amount and the AGI, taxable income, and total tax are all correct however I cannot figure out where the 33,249 came from. The accounts involved are all straight forward. Two traditional IRAs, two annuities, and a small pension. All fully taxable. Does anyone have an explanation for this?
