2% Real Rate of Return on FI?

Assuming 40% for taxes (35% Fed and 5% state), is a 2% real rate of return on fixed income securities even possible these days? Seems like the best I can come up with is <1.5% whether I use tax free munis or not. Thx for the help!!

ISM is the ticker symbol for a CPI-linked note issued by Sallie Mae. Search the board for more info.

Yup, D = Dear (or Damn).
