Tempted to throw in 5k. Really odd situation with so much potential, yet a very unsafe structure. Also, their site, from what i have seen, sucks.

If I didn't know any better, the way CNBC has been lately, I would swear all publicly traded companies have been privatized and only Apple and Alibaba will be around.

think I will sit this one out. Too much of a feeding frenzy. If it comes back down over the next 2-3 months I might dip my toe in the water.

I sure wish I had some of this IPO it is indicated at opening at 80-83 just depends on your view. The key to this stock is the CEO and what you think of him. There is an advantage to having the Warren Buffet of China running your company

Alibaba is described and Amazon + Ebay and a little Google tossed in for good measure.

I threw in $15K. I figure it won't hurt since losing $15K is not too much of a big deal for us.

Lol. Not by any stretch of the imagination! I don't usually do individual stocks and certainly not IPOs so I figure if I can't afford to lose it, don't do it. I will certainly have to cut out the travel budget and more if it's lost but I can live with that.

I have a very little account at scottrade to play with as an outlet for my urge to gamble on the stock market. As a way to get in on the Alibaba action, I recently was all in on YAHOO! at $38.38 and sold at $42. The account is small so the trading fees were not insignificant. It was still a nice dinner out.

I didn't buy any Alibaba.

I thought about the same but again, I'm holding off, just too much hype.

I've dealt a little with them in my business. It is an interesting company. I could easily make a case for or against. I've sworn I would never buy another individual stock (I've proven to be really bad at it), but I may break my rules and throw in a few dollars if the hype dies off and the price drops a bit. Better odds than a lottery ticket, right? Maybe...

It will be interesting to revisit this post in 10 years and see how it worked out.

I put in an IOI at Fido but did not get an allocation. No big surprise there.

Seriously, if you have teenagers chances are they've ordered from Alibaba. From what mine told me, their prices are much lower than Amazon. I think their website sucks though.

No kids of any age. I'm 35 and don't order things online, even Amazon...ever. Actually I did buy 2 pairs of jeans from Walmart.com a couple years ago because they didn't have 36 inseam at the store but that's the only time i've ever ordered anything online. I seriously never heard of the company or website Alibaba until tuesday or wednesday of this week.

That is indeed a big problem with Alibaba but my understanding is that they've been working hard at cleaning that up.
